As a proud Castlecrag local, this café has become my go-to spot for a daily coffee and a moment of calm. Nestled in the heart of our charming community, it combines everything you could want from a café—delicious food, lovely atmosphere, and genuinely kind staff—with that warm, village feel that makes it so easy to keep coming back.
While the prices are a little on the higher side, the quality of everything they serve more than makes up for it. The coffee is consistently excellent—smooth, rich, and satisfying every single time. It’s the kind of place that remembers how you like your order, which just adds to that personal, local touch. And if you’re after something refreshing, do yourself a favour and try the iced chai—it’s creamy, fragrant, and perfectly spiced. Easily one of the best I’ve had.
Their baked eggs are a standout on the menu—comforting, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. It’s the perfect weekend breakfast or brunch. Pair it with a side of their fresh bread, and you’ve got a winning combo. Speaking of the bread—it’s truly something special. Freshly baked, with a crunchy crust and soft, fluffy inside. But be warned: it sells out quickly! Get in early if you’re hoping to take a loaf home.
Another huge plus? It’s dog-friendly! There’s nothing better than enjoying a coffee outside with your furry friend by your side. The staff are always so welcoming to pups, often offering water bowls and a friendly pat. It’s become a popular hangout for locals walking their dogs, which only adds to the laid-back, friendly vibe.
The staff really are the heart of this café—warm, helpful, and always smiling. Whether you’re a regular or it’s your first time popping in, you’re made to feel right at home.
This place is a real gem in Castlecrag. Whether you’re here for a quick coffee, a long brunch, or just to pick up some incredible bread, it’s well worth the visit. Highly, highly recommended—especially if you’re bringing...
Read moreLiving very close to Walter’s makes it a very easy place to drop into, and we have on many occasions, unfortunately our visit on Sunday the 15/10/23 was a very disappointing encounter. My partner and I walked up and the cafe had only one table outside with people on it, so it was a very quiet part of the day after standing there for a while with no service we selected a table on our own, then waited for the four team members who were in deep discussion at the counter, to finish their long apparently humorous conversation. All we wanted was anyone to come greet us and maybe give us a menu! Alas that never happened in the ten minutes we waited! we then decided to order on our own from the menu app on the table. Very quickly our coffee and tea arrived minus the teacup and spoon, but at least we finally saw a team member at our table! At about this time a table of four turned up and sat down and immediately they were given water and menus by the staff who apparently had now finished their conversation. Us on the other hand were still waiting for our tea cup and some sugar! Not much longer after that our food came out and looked delicious! But no cutlery! So I got up and asked the staff for some at the counter, and while I was there also asked for some water! At this point another couple of tables walked in, and each and everyone were greeted and given menus immediately. As I started to eat my Haloumi stack, it had a poached egg on top or should I say a hard boiled egg, my partner had a baguette and also the poached egg was overcooked. We were pretty much over this experience and as we had paid on the app earlier, also leaving a tip mind you! we got up and walked out, probably never to return. Such a disappointing experience, that we will be communicating to our...
Read moreTheir baguettes are rather tasty so it pains me to write about their service. Unfortunately the place is run with no strong management, so process goes out the window.
I have ordered a take-away Baguette on 3 occasions. Their order counter is well inside the shop down near the kitchen. The first time I order it, I place the order and find a seat close by out of the way of the eating in patrons and wait for my order. After around 10 mins i notice kitchen staff are no longer creating and ask where my order is. "Take-away pick up is at the front I am told". Cool remember that for next time.
Second attempt, I place my order and this time go take a seat at the front. 10 minutes go passed, again kitchen staff seem to have cleaned up. General staff are just chatting. I get up and my order is sitting down the other end. I pick it up and ask "Is this my order?". "Oh yeah" is the response.
So today.. last chance. I do the same as my second attempt, but this time clarify where my order is going to appear. "at the front Sir". Time passes, I hear a bell (order is ready) more time passes.. Again go down to the other counter.. my...
