Read moreSo glad I've found a new "local"! I say "local" as this is the closest place to me with a decent coffee within a 15min drive.
Staff and environment: The coffee is always on point and young Daniel and the team run a pretty tight ship, paying attention to even the oat and almond milk they choose to use for those lactose-intolerant of us.
Service from Naz, Rafi, Sohel, Summer, Eve, Lisa, Deanna et al. are always delivered with a smile and genuine friendliness. And if you're into a bit of banter, the team is always quick with a quip and happy to engage to keep the vibe light-hearted. It's a really friendly and personable atmosphere which I always appreciate. Decor is simple and modern industrial with concreted floor and walls and a high-ceiling and airy feel.
Food and drink: As mentioned, the coffee is pretty much always up to a high standard. And on the very rare occasion when it isn't, they're very quick to rectify without making you feel like it was a hassle. I've always found them to be very open to feedback with genuine curiosity and a desire to improve.
My favourite beverages of choice include their Almond Mocha (by Lisa and Daniel in particular) and currently in the warmer months, a blended Iced Coffee frappé (don't judge me) - Deanna and Summer make a particularly good one with just the right slushy consistency with a dollop of ice-cream and ice and full-bodied espresso note that is beyond anything you could hope to get from places like a Starbucks.
I've tried pretty much the entire menu and haven't found anything I didn't like as yet. My personal go-to's include Pumpkin & Haloumi Salad with Grilled Prawns, Secret Chicken Sandwich and Chorizo and Prawn Aglio e Olio Linguine. Tradies seem to particularly like their Beef Sausage & Egg Roll or their Breakfast Burger as well; after trying those a little while back, I can back their choice and it definitely hits the spot if you're feeling peckish.
The owner Ljubinko ("LJ"), runs the business well. I like how the portions are always generous and the ingredients are fresh and top-notch and they don't cut corners and buy the cheapest available like many places these days. This is particularly evident when you try their pumpkin, prawns, salmon and any of the leafy greens.
I give this place 9.5 out of 10 and I'm so glad there's a place like this all the way out this way in my neighbourhood. If you're a local or just passing through, make sure you stop by and...
Read moreI rarely leave reviews, but my experience here was so bad, I feel obligated to warn others. This place is honestly one of the worst dining environments I've ever encountered - and I still baffled how this venue is even passing basic health and safety standards. Cleanliness? Non-existent. The tables were filthy, not wiped even once despite multiple customers coming and going. Leftover crumbs, greasy smears, and dried coffee spills covered most surfaces. The floor was sticky in places and littered with napkins and food scraps. I even peeked under the bench seat- disgusting. Food wrappers, bits of old fries, dust balls â it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. What really blows my mind is that no one working there cared. Staff walked past dirty tables like it was normal. Zero urgency. Zero accountability. Honestly, how this place isn't being flagged by the local council inspectors is beyond me. There are food vans cleaner than this. The staff? A group of teenagers who were clearly more interested in their own conversations than in doing their jobs. Not once did anyone greet me ore / acknowledge that i was standing at the counter waiting to order. They were giggling behind the barista station, gossiping loudly while customers sat waiting for food and drinks. Completely unprofessional and immature. Zero customer service skills. When I finally placed my order, the attitude I received was like I was inconveniencing them. No eye contact, no 'thank you', just a grunted response and a blank stare. I've received more warmth from a vending machine. Now let's talk about the food - overpriced for what you get. My coffee was bitter and burnt. The food was mediocre at best - eggs overcooked, toast soggy, bacon dripping in oil. It felt like the kind of breakfast you'd expect at a cheap truck stop, except here it cost me over $30. They're clearly charging premium prices for an Instagram-friendly brand, but none of that is backed by actual quality or care. The ambience? Loud, chaotic, and dirty. Tables crammed together. Loud music that didn't match the mood of a brunch cafe. Kids running around because no one from staff bothered to maintain some order or make families feel welcome. Overall? A complete mess. XS Gregory Hills is nothing more than a style over substance cafe trying to ride the wave of a trend they clearly don't understand. It's not just bad - it's embarrassingly bad. wouldn't return if...
