To start with I will say that I used to really like this place. I used to come here atleast weekly for lunch. Today I returned after a few months. The quality of the food hasn’t changed. It’s still really good. The fish is fresh, wagyu tender and Katsu crispy. No flaws there. Not very impressed at the service and today’s experience reflects maybe the things I may not have noticed in the past.
Service was a little clueless. To be fair I was asking for the rice and salad on my set to be swapped for something else. Waitress took our order and off she went. Only to come back later with our request knocked back. Here is a suggestion: check the request with the manager before confirming the order. That way you avoid disappointing your customer. Shows that you made the effort to try instead of highlighting the stringent management practices.
Assorted Sashimi per se was 70% salmon, if I wanted that much salmon. I’d order salmon. I suppose it’s still somewhat of an assortment.
I think the final letdown was $1 add for the “extra spicy” option on the mains. Sounds pretty exciting. Right? Dish came with abit of chilli string on top. Nothing infused in the sauce. Just plain Jane teriyaki it’s almost as spicy as blended capsicum. Legit I know that chilli strings are somewhat pricy but no way you charge $1 for about 6 strands. So I check in with the waitress and she took my dish away. Now it came back with an additional 12 strands and a reasonable shake of the dried Japanese red chilli flake you already get on the table for most if not all Japanese restaurants. Oh and mayo. 😓. Mind you the picture of the dish doesn’t do justice to how it looked when initially served. We took a couple of pieces first. Anyhow, my two cents is if you are going to charge for the chilli flakes which you already sorta give for free. It does leave a bit of a bitter taste in the experience.
I was a little annoyed this time seeing that I do frequently recommend this restaurant to friends. I know it’s the small things but these are the sorta things that set you apart from the other options available.
Overall it’s still not a bad place. It’s a place to get decent quality food at a fair price. Today’s experience downgraded my outlook of this place from a good place to just any other...
Read moreI recently dined at Yuzu North Strathfield, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. We ordered sushi and sashimi deluxe and a dragon roll. The disappointment began with the oyster, which has foul odour that reminded me more of sewage than the ocean. They lacked the freshness and brininess that one expects from this delicacy. After bringing my concerns to the attention of the waitress, she kindly offered to replace the oyster with white fish sashimi. While I appreciated the gesture, I couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed by the substitution. White fish sashimi is undoubtedly a delicious option, but it didn't quite make up for the initial letdown of the oyster.
Moving on to the salmon belly sashimi that is on the same platter, it was far from fresh, and the texture and smell were unpleasantly off-putting. The scallop sushi, usually a delight, were disappointingly mushy in texture.
Hoping the dragon roll would salvage the dining experience. Upon taking my first bite, I immediately noticed that the prawn tempura batter was disappointingly doughy. Freshly made tempura should be light, crispy, and airy, but this was far from it. The texture was dense and lacked that satisfying crunch you'd expect from a well-executed tempura.
What added insult to injury was the price tag attached to this subpar dining experience. For the amount I paid, I expected much higher quality seafood. Comparing it to Sushi Hub, a more affordable option, I found their offerings to be fresher and more satisfying.
Overall, my visit to Yuzu North Strathfield fell short of expectations, especially in terms of freshness and value for money. If you're looking for a truly satisfying Japanese dining experience, I'd recommend exploring other options like Yuzu in Newington which were 11min drive apart, for guaranteed freshness...
Read moreFirst time writing a review because the food was THAT bad. Here is my objective review on the Kaiseki A course and the dragon roll.
Firstly though, I would like to say the restuarunt was nicely decorated.
To begin...
Sashimi - The fish had a frozen texture and was not fresh at all, as a result it was very bland.
Sashimi salad - The fish was okay, but the salad was bitter and stale.
Sushi - The sushi was okay.
'Wagyu' tataki - If you think this is real wagyu, you've got to be kidding. Despite it not being actual wagyu beef, it tasted alright.
Seafood Miso soup - Long story short, they managed to mess up instant miso soup by adding cheap quality, frozen seafood. Tasted too salty.
Seafood tempura - I've never had tempura like this before and I have never left tempura uneaten before. But I had a bite and put it down, this made me want to leave straight away.
BBQ wagyu/ Teriyaki salmon - Again not wagyu, but was cooked okay. Salmon was overcooked but sauce was okay. Stated it was a main but came in a small dish with nothing else.
Dragon roll - tempura prawn was cold and sogy, felt like leftovers from lunch. Eel was disappointing.
Overall spent $100+ on food that was not worth it. The only saving grace was the drinks. Never coming back again. Hope this doesn't ...
