I love travelling through the South Island of New Zealand and dampling the local cafes. Why? Because so many of them are family owned, use local produce, and cook from the heart - the food tastes better and the atmosphere is warmly and friendly.
What has this got to do with Mamma Buzz? Because what I described above fits Mamma Buzz perfectly.
We stopped in here for brunch based off a good search, and we are so glad we did. I had the eggs Benedict and was blown away by the perfect poached eggs, home made hollandaise sauce that was creamy with a hint of zing, well smoked bacon, and a hadh brown. My wife had scrambled eggs, bacon, awesome gluten free toast, and a superb relish. Others in our party had bacon and eggs or a wrap - also with a delicious crunchy hash brown. It was divine.
Coffee and hot chocolate were excellent, and loved the tree themed artworks around they walls. So wanted to buy one, but the bank balance only goes so far. We did buy a few cars of the relish though - locally made!
Lots of locals were there - always a good sign - and the staff knew so many by name. The rest of the party members have voted that we stop back here on the back from cradle mountain - excellent idea.
If you are in the area, especially if you are travelling between Launceston and Cradle Mountain, pop off the highway at Deloraine and drop in. You won't be...
Read moreI'm sorry but I felt compelled to write the following, but I must state the facts.
Today was my first, and only time that I will ever visit this establishment, timing wise at what turned out to be some 10 to 15 minutes prior to closing time on a Sunday.
We didn't go in there and skimp, rather we purchased 2 x 1.5kg buckets of honey, 2 x take away GF cauliflower and brie slices (which I have yet to try, but am very concerned after what I ate today), a takeaway roast pork dish with several veggies, and finally chicken meatballs with cheese and pasta. Both of which were heated for us to take away due to the impending closing. Total costs was just over $100.
Staff: The owner was a delight, however the young lady that served us certainly appeared to prefer to be somewhere else given how they were closing soon. She wasn't rude or the like, but it was plain to see she wasn't happy.
But this wasn't really an issue, what was; was the worst possible chicken ball dish you could possibly imagine. Seriously, the taste was so unbelievably bland and boring - even after adding lots of salt and pepper to try and liven things up - that I had to throw them in the bin. Oh, I should add that I am truly unsure wat was actually in the meatballs - aside from small bones and gristle.
Sorry Mumma Buzz, it this...
