Bomboras Torquay - worth your time and $$! Bomboras is another hip, beach-type shack found along the Esplanade opposite Torquay Beach, open from early until late and serving a range of items and caters for many dietary needs. They also have a pop-up bar version, down the road, great for end of day cocktails and drinks. The owners and staff are youthful, friendly and enthusiastic about their food and restaurants [they have more in the works]. After repeatedly seeing this place packed to the rafters, I decided to have breakfast there, and I wasn't disappointed! Despite cool weather, many customers sat outside on the balcony or out the front on the benches. The takeaway drinks window was working overtime! Inside are rustic wooden tables and benches, easily be shared in a COVID-19 safe manner, and were in demand. Breakfast Recommendations Zeally Bay Fruit Toast - baked on the premises, filled with chunky bits of fruit including fig, and accompanied with butter and raspberry jam, which had a sweet tartness, just like my mother used to make. Housemade Granola - with berry compote, pear and strawberry slices, oats, nuts, sesame seeds, honey drizzle and yogurt with an optional add on of almond milk. The texture was crunchy and needed the milk and yogurt to soften the contents. * I can also recommend the Belgian Waffles based on comments from the next table of diners. Drinks - orange juice and a long black - fresh juice and medium strength coffee with nutty/chocolatey flavour. For approximately $30, the food received was well presented, tasty, nutritious, significantly portioned and enough to carry you until dinner or a late afternoon. If like me, you had an elegant sufficiency, then the walking paths across the road could be a great way to walk off the additional calories! *Cross-posted to social media and websites

Definitely a favourite place in Torquay, this fine establishment sets a high standard. Situated on the Esplanade makes parking easy and is obviously a prime location for the coastal destination. Service staff were professional and well presented. The barista stood out with consummate ease as he happily went about his trade and set a comfortable tone. The coffees that were delivered were strong and flavoursome with a slightly nutty finish. Only miss here was that the milk was not silky and produced a very bubbled froth. We both ordered the smashed avo which was brought out in quick time. The meal was balanced, delicious and satisfying. The house mate Beetroot relish was outstanding! Did note that the poached eggs were slightly over cooked. And, I’d recommend a thicker slice of sourdough so it retains structure.

Ordered the seafood platter. Was serviced prawns instead of the Moreton Bay bug without even being informed. When asked where the bugs where, they simply said there is a shortage of bugs so they swapped them for prawns instead. When I raised that I have seen dishes coming out of the kitchen with the bugs, they said it is available for the seafood linguine. So I asked why is it available for the linguine but not for my platter. Finally the served us two halves of two clearly different bugs. There was no apology, just arrogance from the staff. Food was below average, the prawns, bugs and salmon were overcooked. Terrible service especially on a day there is a 15% surcharge.

On a very busy Summer Holiday Saturday my wife and I had breakfast here for the first time. It was packed. I expected to wait quite a while but was pleasantly surprised by a fairly quick turnaround after placing my order. My coffee was out even quicker. Not my favourite coffee, but then that is a very subjective criticism. It seemed a little bitter, and not the smooth brew that I like. My wife had the smashed avocado with a poached egg on the side, and commented that the serve of avocado would not have satisfied her had it been served without the egg. The avo had dukkah in it but probably could well have benefited from some feta to really impress her. I think a little watercress or rocket on the side may have enhanced the look of the plate without adding a great deal to the expense to the business. I had the Eggs Hollandaise which was quite nice, except that the Hollandaise sauce appeared to be packaged. It definitely didn't have a house made quality about it. Whilst it was busy, and I can appreciate the need for speed, I do think a hollandaise needs to be fresh, golden, and have zing about it. The baby spinach leaves were a little light on too. My wife would have loved a freshly squeezed juice (her favourite is simple - orange and pineapple) and to our way of thinking is money for jam in a well run cafe. We think we'll try again when the crazy season is over. Certainly it was a pleasant experience, but in this hyper competitive world in which we live, the little things that I have mentioned, make a difference. Having said all that, the prices were reasonable. Service was quite efficient, and the outlook is lovely. We live in Torquay and want places like Bomboras to thrive and prosper, just as many do in other holiday resorts we visit, such as Byron or the Gold Coast....

Where do I start. We came here the other weekend twice. The first time on Saturday for lunch. We waited for a while by the sign on the grass that said "Please wait to be seated", multiple staff ignored us until we actually had to call someone to seat us. The table service was average, took a while for someone to take our order and drinks came out far apart, but the food was good. The next morning we came here for breakfast as it was the only place without a line. We went inside this time to ask for a seat, and got seated by the window. View was great but all downhill from there. This was the worst dining experience I've ever had. We were left with menus for 20minutes. The people seated behind us 10mins after us got their order taken first and we had to call two separate people over to take ours because the first seemed to have forgotten. Then we watched as everyone seated at the same time or after us got their food and finished eating. We waited patiently for another 30-40minutes and called a waitress over to check what was happening, after 5 minutes she came back and unfortunately seemed to be lying to us and say that our meal was next to be made and it would be 5minutes. We opted to leave as we we hungry, angry and very disgusted at the service. There was no remorse or apology from the girl or anyone else for the wait or the bad experience. Another customer noticed and said to us they would not have been so patient and would be very angry if they were us. We had at least 4/5 different ladies 'serve' us and there is a clear lack of customer service. To add onto that by the time we left - with no food, every other restaurant had stopped serving breakfast. Would not recommend this place at all. And will...
