What an excellent fish and chip experience ! Drawn in by the fresh new lighting and signage pulled off the Surfcoast highway into the ample parking and tried Flippin Fresh. I was greeted warmly, and considered the classic offering - unsure of which fish (noting I'm usually being a grilled flathead or whiting type of bloke) but wanting the house recommendation, accepted the friendly advice to try the fresh flake - I paired it with some calamari and minimum chips then sat to wait on the plushest takeaway restaurant bench seat I've ever experienced. During the short wait for my meal I was fortunate to connect with new local owners Tim and Sammy and realised they're actually a coastal hospitality power couple who've managed, run and owned numerous restaurants including the legendary Torquay institution 'Surfrider Cafe'. Anyhow...the meal I received after a short wait was flawless - flake recommendation was spot on, it was the best I've ever eaten. I enjoyed it with a generous serve of perfectly salted delicious chips and tender delicious calamari. A sincere 5 star take away experience. Excited for the seafood Tapas bar opening in the adjacent building. Encourage you to try Flippin Fresh and wish this conscientious and charismatic family run business...
Read moreFLIPPEN AWFUL !!! THE new sign says under new management, unfortunately this isn't a good thing!! I used to get a butterfish pack that came with tartare sauce, wedge of lemon the piece of fish was huge, the batter was lovely and crispy ,chips were yum all served in a box with a paper bag covering the meal with holes in the bag to let the steam out which kept the batter crispy. This place is run by teenagers, there wasn't an adult in sight, most teens have the personality of a wet paper bag, there needs to be adult supervision !! The fish was very small in size, the batter was soggy and the fish was definitely NOT fresh!! The fish was dry, flavorless not juicy and flavourful like it once was and served in tightly wrapped paper hence the batter was soggy, the only thing I liked were the chips but for a small soggy,NO flavour piece of butterfish and chips for $17.00 plus $2.50 for tartare sauce I paid $19.50 !!! Never again!!!!! This place use to be Great , definitely not now in my opinion !! Won't be back, definitely don't recommend!!! Next time I'll go to Rose's Chinese restaurant in Anglesea if I'm feeling like some...
Read moreWe had some family come from interstate and they wanted to try some fish & chips for dinner. We decided to try flippen fresh as we'd previously had fish and chips there, and the quality had been top shelf. We ordered the food, my wife attended the shop 20-minutes later, picked them up and got back to our place and opened up what appeared to be dry, over-cooked leftovers, they weren't fresh at all. Everyone took a look at the food, everything apart from the chips and potato cakes seemed fresh, the chips and potato cakes appeared to be leftover dregs, dry, overcooked so much we were actually able to snap the potato cakes in half.
We called the shop to let them know, but after several attempts over 10-15 minutes we gave up as it was just before closing.
We ended up throwing the chips and potato cakes in the bin, and our guests were stuck with sharing the dim sim that they also ordered.
Unfortunately I only remembered to take a photo of my 2 potato cakes before I tossed them in the bin, we'll now only go to one of the many other fish and chips shops in the area, rather than...
