Cafe Lekker — Restaurant in Victoria

As always delicious coffee and wide selection on the menu. Staff are very welcoming & provide prompt service. Clean cafe with appropriate number of customers permitted at any given time. Table service provided as always. Toilets are always clean. Cater for vegetarians. When my friend, who is vegetarian, and I want to go out for lunch we have often been disappointed at how many cafes have no vegetarian meals or have only one or two on the menu. There have been occasions my friend has had no option but to order a pretty basic salad without the meat that would normally come with the salad. Cafe Lekker does include genuine vegetarian meals on its menu so we only go there when we go for lunch. When my husband and I have have requested variations to menu items, staff have been happy to accommodate when they have what we requested. Eg My husband really dislikes sourdough bread, which is the only bread on offer at many cafes we've been to. We were very pleased to find Cafe Lekker also offers plain white bread in addition to sourdough. Just for interest"Lekker" is Dutch for "Yummy" apparently, and the food is certainly that! Staff know many of their customers by name, which is impressive as the customers aren't asked for their name when placing their order. Thanks again for a delicious breakfast as always. When we returned after a break of a few months due to ill health, it was lovely to walk in and have the waitress, Bec, still remember and greet us by name and enquire how we had been as she hadnt seen us for a while. Unfortunately, they don't take bookings on weekends, which is the only thing we would change. However, we go quite early so we never have trouble getting a table. Congratulations to the team for providing delicious fresh, delicious meals, using fresh ingredients, and at reasonable prices. The coffee is also excellent. In addition to customers dining in, there is always a constant stream of regular customers popping in for their take away coffees and snacks. I have always loved there tomato chutney, which accompanied my cooked breakfast. This can now be purchased so you can enjoy it at home as well. Cafe Lekker may not be the "flashiest" looking cafe, but as someone who is a fairly good home cook I am often disappointed by the quality of food when we eat out. Cafe Lekker is my new “go to” in Ballarat; there’s tough competitors within a coupla blocks, so that’s a statement in itself. Lekker is awesome. It is consistently excellent across all that matters in a cafe. The service is spectacular and has never dipped. You are remembered and welcomed even as an infrequent visitor. The coffee is chef’s kiss and beautifully served. And the tucker! So many awesome staples AND creative options and all of them preoccupying the diner’s attention so that you know when the plate lands because there’s sudden silence. The smashed avocado is just GOAT. Beautiful sourdough. And you can trust the eggs, which is rarer than it should be. As a cafe obsessive, I just take off my hat to the people who do Lekker. The cafe is elegant and the seating soooo comfy, and the ambience is just ganache on top. Even in the brutal depths of a Ballarat winter, it is warm and happy at Lekker. Worth a trip just to check it out, although the big B has plenty of cool interest....

Driving through town on our way to the next destination and we had a craving for breakfast, we stopped at Cafe Lekker and straight away got greeted by a very lovely woman at the door (possibly the owner) very cheerful and welcoming. I ordered the breaky burger with the homemade tomato relish instead of tomato’s and an iced chocolate while my partner ordered the pancakes. Food came out super quick and well presented on very cute almost hand painted plates with Lekker written in them. My first bite into the breaky burger was like a flood of memories, I closed my eyes and could taste my mums cooking, the tomato relish was incredible and added so much flavour to the meal. I was extremely happy and I’ve been left wanting more, we will be stopping in again on our next trip.
