Stopped over in Albury Wodonga, returning from Melb to Syd. Chose La Maison for dinner as it has great reviews.
Sadly this is not a French restaurant, do not be fooled by the name.
The restaurant was super busy (Friday night) so expected a slow service.
Ordered Spanish octopus tapas entree, octopus cooked well, tender and soft, but smothered in sauce.
Ordered Porterhouse steak (x2) medium rare.
After waiting over an hour, began to wonder if the order had been forgotten. Especially as we saw diners that arrived after us eating their mains!
Waitperson apologized for delay and gave us complimentary glass of Prosecco.
Two steaks arrived within 5 mins.
Both steaks dry, chewy and over cooked, well past medium rare, potatoes hard and raw inside, broccolini stems woody. :(
$52 for a steak, top dollar, really expected more.
Complained to our waitperson, they conceded potatoes were awful, and waived the cost for one steak.
10/10 to our waitperson for professionalism.
Not really one to leave reviews, but the great online reviews, and pricing of food does create expectation of great dining experience, which for us wasn’t...

Ordered the chicken liver parfait - it is everything you want/expect from a chicken liver parfait and then some. Every element that was served came together to create an explosion of flavour without being confusing. You can tell that the flavours of this dish was carefully/lovingly crafted. The sourdough was open fire toasted with a beautiful smokiness to it, the sweetness of the figs and peach jam balanced the rich, creaminess of the liver, and finally the tang and kick of the spices and pepperiness lingers. Divine.
The crispy pork belly was a well selected cut - not too lean such that it's dry, and not too fatty either. The meat was tender whist the skin beautifully crispy, almost reminiscent of a Chinese style roast pork. And fittingly paired with fresh Asian slaw. Excellent use of nuoc mam to enhance the umami of the otherwise plain pork belly.
5 stars.
Although the house Pinot Noir was lacklustre - with such divine cuisine perhaps the restaurant curators would explore wine pairings to...
Read moreVery confused by this restaurant. It has a French name meaning ‘The House’ but nothing French on the menu other than a charcuterie and cheese board with just one small piece of cheese, a couple slices of each meat to share and most of the plate is pickled vegetables. The terrine was good though. The entrees are called ‘Mezza’ which is Lebanese, and they offer ‘Tapas’ which is Spanish.
I got the Salmon that sat in miso broth (in a plate so you can’t exactly drink it) with 1 broccolini and a few edamame peas and some Japanese noodles. So I was still quite hungry at the end, but paid $153 for 2 with no alcohol.
I ended up getting sick a few hours after getting home too, and had ‘safe’ foods the rest of the day but can’t confirm whether or not it was from this restaurant.
Otherwise, the atmosphere was nice and we were sat by a fire, adding to the romantic feel. The staff were very friendly.
Tried once and probably won’t be...
