The cafe is in a lovely spot but unfortunately there are some very big negatives. Firstly if you like your coffee then don't waste your money. On two occasions going there the coffee has been cold and my partner's hot chocolate was also cold and watery. We let the woman on the counter know but she didn't seem to care at all. A bad attitude is a great way to lose return customers, that's for sure. The food was nice but overpriced for the tiny bit you get. One of our meals was a chicken schnitzel which was just a piece of schnitzel on a plate with some parmesan cheese sprinkled over it. Whilst it was nice, it was sooooo plain with no sides and for the price you pay I'd expect something more than a piece of chicken thrown onto a plate! The outdoor dining area is dog friendly but a little TOO "dog friendly" with three dogs sitting up at the tables and not a single staff member did anything about it. It's not pleasant to think you'd be the next person eating out there after dogs have been sitting on the seats and up at the table, plus I'm pretty sure that this goes against health department guidelines. The wasps were also annoying if you were sitting outside and a few people moved or left, although we weren't sure if the wasps were the reason they left or if it was because of the dogs running around off their leads and sitting on the furniture that put customers off. It certainly put us off. Would we come back again? No. Try somewhere else where the food is worth the money, the coffee doesn't taste like watered down warm milk and where dogs aren't allowed to sit on the furniture! This is definitely not somewhere I'd recommend. If they don't care about health regulations with dogs on the furniture then it makes me wonder what goes on behind closed doors in the kitchen! Service was incredibly slow. It took so long for someone to take our order and then on both occasions that we went here we had to wait a very long time for our drinks, then our food. On a very hot day we were given outdoor seats in the sun, despite there being multiple tables available in the shade, and as much as it's nice to be given glasses of water, don't bother if the water is warm! On a hot day giving customers warm water is a waste of time. The service definitely needs some work at this place and the woman on the counter has a bad attitude and couldn't care less if there's a problem. The young girls who were waiting on our tables each time were lovely so thank you to them but the other woman should improve her attitude if she doesn't want to turn off customers. I usually give 5 star rave reviews and don't usually bother writing bad reviews but this place was bad on two occasions and people should know it's not worth going here. Grab a take away coffee somewhere else, or bring a picnic lunch, and admire the lovely park, but give the River Deck...
Read moreI had previously left this restaurant a glowing review and after today have come here to delete and repost my new one. I don't know if you changed hands to New owners or what but things have changed at the River Deck and it is unfortunately not what is used to be.
As one of my favorites I suggested we stop in this morning for coffee. Once inside we were sat at a table and not offered a high chair. So our 2 year old had to sit on a regular chair.
During our short visit the staff and patrons seemed to be annoyed by him more than anything when he was being a typical squirmy 2 year old and actually being good.
Now for the quality of the coffee... I ordered a large ice latte which shocked me when I got it because it was served in something the size of a kids sippy cup, I kid you not. It definitely wasn't large and for almost $6 I expected a decent coffee and it could have been forgiven if the coffee was nice, it was watery and bland. Not at all good.
Secondly a $2.50 babychino served in a glass cup. This item was almost 3x what other establishments charge and thanks to a weighty glass cup my son spilled his drink. Your staff witnessed this and walked away. My son sobbing as he'd spilled his treat and the staff did not care and your patrons acted annoyed by this.
My son refused to eat your hedgehog slice too and I can tell you why it was dry. Not a little dry, very dry and unpalatable.
Also a kitchen that refuses to make up a bowl of fries because it's not lunch menu time when I know damn we'll they serve fried hash browns for breakfast was not good enough.
We left this morning dissatisfied, $30 down for poor food and beverages and feeling unwelcome from staff and patrons.
It seems what used to be a nice high quality warm, family atmosphere has begun to cater more toward childless millennial hipster pretension. You used to be great but today the atmosphere toward my family and I was cold and uninviting and the prices of everything don't reflect the experience.
I won't be back or be recommending you to anyone. Save your money and go to maccas as River Deck no longer...
Read moreVisiting Albury we spent a beautiful warm morning exploring Norieul Park along the banks of the Murray and came across this cafe. We'd first ordered a couple of iced lattes to go along with our walk but these were disappointingly weak, essentially we had iced milk with a mere stain of coffee. However the cafe is so perfectly located and there was such a great buzz of people enjoying themselves when we came back on our return loop that we decided to give it another chance for brunch. There's a brekky menu up to 11:30am and a different lunch offering after 11:30am. Alas we were seated and ready to order at 11:15am and of course our son wanted the waffles n eggs (breakfast menu) and daughter had her sights on fish/barra and chips (lunch menu). No problems we thought, just order the waffles first wait a few minutes more then order the fish. Unfortunately this was a no go as for an unfathomable reason our waitress was insistent that breakfast and lunch menu items can't be mixed on the same table. Nothing on her she was friendly and pleasant, just the rules apparently but couldn't tell us why. Another quirk was at each item ordered she very adamantly asks who it will be for and seemed quite disconcerted that we planned to share the food and drink among us. There's a saying that brunch is for jerks and it seems that the concept is out here, so not wanting to be bigger jerks than we already were, we settled for the breakfast options of waffles, poke bowl, vegie fritters, and the daughter's temporary disappointment. Happy to report though that each of these were generous and delicious. Learning from our experience earlier, I asked for a double shot flat white which was also an improvement on the ice lattes. And the super friendly banter and hospitality by the gentleman who may have been head of staff or the floor manager, who settled our bill, left a smile on our...
