Located on Gilbert Street in direct competition with a few other cafes and in a small shopping village, you will find the unassuming, cruisy Mavis Mavis cafe. Clearly, a hangout place for locals and for tradies to grab a coffee on the run or a toastie. You cannot go wrong with $10 for a large toastie, cooked fresh in their tiny kitchen. Their coffee is intense and home-baked items are available for the sweet tooth. The atmosphere is relaxed with a few rustic tables inside and out. Breakfast Recommendation: Egg and bacon toastie - sourdough, bacon, sausage, bacon and relish - the perfect start for those heading out to surf, walk or on the road to their next destination. A chilled way to start the day - drop in and give them a try - perfect for those on a travelling budget!

Was in Torquay for the weekend and came in for a bite and coffee and the place was bustling. Managed to find a table inside but they did not seem to have any high chairs. Regardless, ordered coffees and two toasted - ham and cheese and bacon and egg and a service of scrambled eggs on toast. Food came out super quick and it was delicious, must say, the bacon and egg toastie was sooooo good with the tomato relish and all.

Might have took a little time because of Easter’s weekend and the local popularity, nevertheless - the toasty was on point. Crispy, melty, with a little fleur de sel and herbs. Nice execution. Simply great. Just a doubt on the coffee - it really didn’t tasted like oat milk. Might have been too busy to focus. Hopefully it didn’t caused harm. And served in a paper cup even though we were on site. Was good still.

Well, look. I wanted to leave a lower review but cannot argue with the quality of the flavour of the toastie!

I got the Reuben and it was deliscious, however pretty annoyed about the cash ā€œsurchargeā€ on a Saturday.

Menu says $16, board says $16, I’m paying in cash and it costs me $16.70??? Surely you should be incentivising cash payments?? Rent doesn’t go up on a Saturday, food doesn’t go up on a Saturday, maybe a public holiday or Sunday I’d understand but just seems shitty šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

Either way it should be sign posted and the cashier should be letting you know...

Do not come here unless you have half an hour to spare for your takeaway coffee. Waited a long time for two coffees only to find out that they’ve been given to someone else. Also not COVID safe - staff making coffee and front of house not wearing masks when it was still mandatory - my visit was on Saturday 16/01. No hand sanitiser upon entry and saw it pushed and hidden away at the far right end of the counter (where the payment...
