Located on Gilbert Street in direct competition with a few other cafes and in a small shopping village, you will find the unassuming, cruisy Mavis Mavis cafe. Clearly, a hangout place for locals and for tradies to grab a coffee on the run or a toastie.

You cannot go wrong with $10 for a large toastie, cooked fresh in their tiny kitchen. Their coffee is intense and home-baked items are available for the sweet tooth. The atmosphere is relaxed with a few rustic tables inside and out.

Breakfast Recommendation: Egg and bacon toastie - sourdough, bacon, sausage, bacon and relish - the perfect start for those heading out to surf, walk or on the road to their next destination.

Well, look. I wanted to leave a lower review but cannot argue with the quality of the flavour of the toastie!

I got the Reuben and it was deliscious, however pretty annoyed about the cash “surcharge” on a Saturday.

Menu says $16, board says $16, I’m paying in cash and it costs me $16.70??? Surely you should be incentivising cash payments?? Rent doesn’t go up on a Saturday, food doesn’t go up on a Saturday, maybe a public holiday or Sunday I’d understand but just seems shitty 🤷🏼‍♂️

Either way it should be sign posted and the cashier should be letting you know...

Do not come here unless you have half an hour to spare for your takeaway coffee. Waited a long time for two coffees only to find out that they’ve been given to someone else.
