We finally got to have dinner here after having it recommended by everyone from our Uber drivers to Wait staff in other restaurants! Mr Jones did not disappoint. We were warmly greeted and quickly seated. The restaurant has a slightly industrial and busy ambience but it is still comfortable and inviting. Whilst we initially found the set menu a little confusing, our Waiter explained it all so we understood what was going on. There were more than enough courses to fully satisfy a hungry soul and I personally enjoyed the fact that we got to try some things that we wouldn't normally choose. Standouts for us was the Ma hor (what a taste sensation!), Savoury Cupcakes and a (to die for) grilled Peking duck. Lucky for me, I got two serves of Mushrooms because my husband doesn't eat them and I was very happy about that. But all the courses were seriously good. Everything was well spaced out and made for a proper night out. We were really well looked after. All the Wait staff were very friendly and attentive. Plates were cleared quickly at the end of each course and wine and water glasses were constantly refilled. Sadly, it had to come to an end and we both left muttering "that was bloody delicious". We will definitely be back and look forward to a full a la carte menu returning. As a side, this part of town has the bones to become a little foodie enclave away from the hustle and bustle so let's hope that...
Read moreI have been to Cat fish twice and went to Mr Jones for the first time last night. We both ordered a cocktail/mocktail which was okay. We also decided to go with one of the banquet option which was $69 per person which meant we got 4 of the 'street food' a stir fry and a curry. To be completely honest the food was pretty nice, was it the best Thai food I've ever had? No. I have now been to this restaurant 3 times and every time I go I am shocked by the serving sizes. Very small. I have a small appetite so it was fine but if you're expecting a real feed that you would expect from a banquet anywhere else you won't be leaving full. Every time I've gone I thought I was just unlucky and ordered a small meal. Hence why I opted for one of the banquet options. It was delicious and it was just enough, but when the food was sat in front of us I was shocked by how small everything was. We decided to get dessert which was absolutely delicious and I was swear was bigger than the curry we got. The service was fantastic and every one was very nice.
For $205 dollars which got us a drink, banquet and dessert I do not believe it was worth it. The food you could tell was very high quality and was delicious. But if you want good Thai meal that is good value for money I would suggest places like Moon and Mountain, Chin Chin, LongGrain and Rice Paper Scissors. Don't get me wrong, you will still enjoy a meal here but you may...
Read moreFairly surprised at how mediocre this was for the price ($115 per head set menu). Very standard Thai food basically, nothing bad per se but certainly not the chefs-hat price tag they charge - simply just isn’t unique or well prepared to justify. Wine was meh, and nothing is under $20 a glass. Service was weird and seemed more focused on abrupt, endless changes of clean plates than any meaningful explanation or interactions. It’s always the thing in restaurants that makes me suspicious that the food isn’t actually that good (although being served Belgian chocolate brownie with random sorbet as a finish for a $115 Thai meal did confirm that was the case). My personal favourite was the unexplained bottomless sparkling water that cost us $34 - No bottles on table or courtesy to ask if we wanted to buy more of it just a nice surprise on the bill. Won’t be back, obviously. If you want Thai there’s several just as good for a fraction of the cost - even in Ballarat. No idea how these other glowing reviews had a good experience, my only guess is that it was previously...
