We stopped in here on Sunday morning, having spent the previous day at the Ballarat Beer Festival. Not surprisingly, given the number of out-of-towners in Ballarat that weekend, the place was packed.

While we were seated immediately, it was an extremely long wait for food and drinks. It took more than 30 mins to have our orders taken. However, it was worth the wait.

The food was beautiful - I had the baked eggs, which I can highly recommend, and my husband had the pesto scrambled eggs, which were also fantastic. This is one of those places where you get food envy every time a new meal is brought out because the presentation of every dish was faultless. I'm not a coffee drinker, but the group I was there with certainly were, and they were all pleased with their coffees.

Despite being overwhelmed, the staff remained friendly and helpful. As a thank you for our patience, they even offered us cake. There's nothing like cake to make you instantly forgive someone! But in all seriousness, we just appreciated the acknowledgment that it had been a long wait and that they were caught off guard by the crowd. And the meals themselves were so generous in size, that none of us could fit cake in any case.

I would come back here again in a heartbeat! The venue is beautifully made up and the staff were lovely. And I hope to get to try more of their...

Had the corn and cheddar fritter with avocado, tomato relish, haloumi, a poached egg and a flat white. The meal itself was very tasty, with excellent flavours, and the egg was perfectly poached, however for $24.90 received one fritter. Everywhere I've been in Melbourne and had fritters, it's always been 2 fritters on the plate. Great flavour but I thought there could have been more on the plate for that price. The coffee was excellent. Now, the service. I thought it was quite flat, not very enthusiastic and almost a bit robotic. I've worked in hospitality and retail myself and I know it gets really tiring and stressful at times, but smiling at your customers and even asking how the meal was would help. Refuel was still good but I deducted a star for the quantity of food and...

Food was good, albeit small. Service was poor though. Didn’t feel like staff seemed interested. Menus were brought to our table and drink orders taken. Nobody ever came back to take our food order. Drinks took about 15 minutes. When we got them one was wrong. We went to the counter to let them know. We still weren’t asked about food so we had to make it known we were also there for breakfast. When our food came out we didn’t get any knives or forks and there weren’t any on the table. Tried to flag it with the staff as they turned around but they just walked away. Found some cutlery on one of the other tables...

After reading the reviews I was so excited to go to Refuel for my Father's day breakfast. From the get go I was disappointed. I am a strong supporter of Ballarat businesses and want them to do well. But, I thought the customer service was average, the girl didn't smile once. What riled me even more was the ridiculous cost of a chorizo sausage. A full sausage is $12. Ridiculous. It states on the menu it is $6 as an extra. But that is only half a sausage as my photo shows. They cut it in half. I queried it, but the manager stated that was the price. The coffee was excellent, but I don't think I'll be going back. Disappointed.

Honestly, we know most brunch menu is similar for many cafes. But I find some places' portions are small and therefore overpriced. This place was great because the portion was massive and also has upright vibe. I had smashed avo but was surprised to see how one egg was included as at many places you gotta pay extra for eggs and some places give you one piece of bread instead of two even. Also, I like how it is situated on the corner so you can see out the window while you enjoy your food. Staff are very lovely and the music was great too. As a local, I will definitely visit more.

Perfectly situated on the corner of Sturt Street and Greville Street, this quaint little cafe is well worth a visit. The welcoming and friendly staff great you and seat you as you walk in. The decor is refreshing and light with the aspect of the seating capturing the morning sun, lovely when we visited in Winter. The food was delicious. Whether you're having a smoothie, Belgian waffles, french toast, or eggs on toast or spiced Porridge, everything was amazing. This one is a definate five start for us.
