Yum, so glad we booked for dinner here. Thank goodness for Google reviews too leading us to good places :-) As others have said, we didn’t expect to have such a delicious Indian meal in Daylesford.

Starter of samosas was satisfyingly spiced , potatoes and peas full of their own flavour, and every last morsel of the pastry was crisp and fresh (not a hint of excess oil nor old oil); my dream samosas. (This is from the perspective of a person who struggles to find decent samosas in our local area, just not enough demand, so instead we drive a fair way to our favourite place Babaji’s in Belgrave).

We didn’t enjoy the vindaloo as much but very much enjoyed the aloo bhaingan masala. Both were so fresh and full of texture and flavour. On that - our meals came out quickly after our order yet to me the taste telegraphed the highest care and attention to detail in the kitchen. Our garlic naan was dreamy as well. It was pillowy yet crisp and bitey and carried a rich mellow garlic flavour , and still managed not to feel oily (how ??). Finally our pea pulao was light yet full flavoured (check out the photo - not your usual peas pulao and look at those delicious basmati grains).

Just yum.

Finally we loved the warm and gracious interior. While we were seated at a front window on a cold evening , we felt no chill or drafts at all and in fact never realised it had rained til we stepped outside after dinner. The candle light, table settings and attentive service felt special , and we enjoyed thoughtful touches such as the warmed plates. Worthy of a special occasion but too good to reserve only for special occasions!

Thank you Taj Mahal. Wish you...

I had an incredible experience at this authentic Indian restaurant! From the moment we stepped in, the warm and welcoming ambiance made us feel right at home. The quality of the food was outstanding; every dish we tried was bursting with authentic flavors and cooked to perfection.

Not only was the food exceptional, but the portion sizes were also generous, ensuring we left with satisfied appetites. The service was impeccable as well. Mr. Avdesh went above and beyond to make our visit memorable. He was attentive, courteous, and always ready to assist with any request we had.

What truly touched our hearts was how they made my daughter's birthday extra special. When they found out it was her birthday, they surprised her with a heartfelt rendition of the Happy Birthday song. It was a lovely and thoughtful gesture that made her day even more memorable.

To top it all off, they offered a complimentary dessert for my daughter as a birthday treat. It was a delightful way to end the meal and put a big smile on her face.

Overall, this restaurant provided an exceptional dining experience, and we will undoubtedly be returning soon. The combination of great food, excellent service, and the way they made my daughter's birthday celebration so special made it an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking an authentic Indian dining experience with top-notch...

It’s such a shame to have to write this review because the food was spectacular and thoroughly enjoyed. Our experience was dampened by the unfair and discriminatory treatment we received by staff due to my partner’s Guide Dog. Upon walking into the restaurant we were advised that the restaurant had a “no dogs policy” which we respect, however when we explained to the staff member that it is unlawful for them to deny our dog access, we were again told “no dogs allowed inside.” When I explained that we would take this further as legally they had to allow him access, the staff member removed themselves to supposedly go to speak to management. When he returned, we were allowed access but told we must sit in a back room by ourselves - which again is discriminatory. The lighting in this part of the restaurant was not substantial enough for my partner and his low vision. And as parents with a baby who don’t get out very often, sitting with other adults in the restaurant would have been a nice expensive rather than being shunned alone in the back room. The staff member was pleasant and helpful for the remainder of the evening and explained that he did not know the law around Guide Dogs. This we understand, but it is up to management to make sure that staff are trained in dealing with these situations. When you know better, you do better - please don’t allow this to...

One of the best Indian restaurant. Restaurants in the countryside can often be pricey but this one was affordable & less than what you'd pay in Melbourne. The starters were delicious. The samosa chaat was a perfect of creamy and crispy and the chicken tikka was the best I've had in recent days. Both are must try. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food arrived quickly but if you're planning to order masala tea. I recommend order about 15 minutes before finishing your meal as we had to wait over 20 minutes for ours, but it was worth the wait. The atmosphere was welcoming and the restaurant was clean. If you're ever in Daylesford and craving for Indian food. I highly recommend this place. You'll get great food at a reasonable price and it's definitely worth a visit. You won't regret it :)

As I know indian food and appreciate that some restaurants don't have tandoor ovens, I always ask if what is sold as naan or garlic naan is real. I ordered and got weird chapati flat bread which was for the bin. This, sadly, happens when the premise wnats the money for naans and doesn't actually make them. I'd suggest they are preying on ignorance. I went back twice as I am sure this happens daily - I got flipped off and hence the review. On their website they have a picture of a real naan which is even worse - top middle are real naans. I live in Asia and there would be war if this happened there
