Apostrophe Use: Contractions and Omissions

A contraction is a shortened form of a word (or group of words) that omits certain letters or sounds. In a contraction, an apostrophe represents missing letters. The most common contractions are made up of verbs, auxiliaries, or modals attached to other words: He would=He’d. I have=I’ve. They are=They’re. You cannot=You can’t.

Apostrophes and Possessive Nouns

The rules about forming possessives probably cause the most apostrophe confusion. They vary a little bit, depending on what type of noun you are making into a possessive.

Plurals

Using an unnecessary apostrophe to form the plural of a noun is a very common mistake. Sometimes, it’s called the grocer’s apostrophe because of how frequently it is spotted in grocery store advertisements (3 orange’s for a dollar!). Don’t do it! With very few exceptions, apostrophes do not make nouns plural.

The reviews were good so that was decision made. And boy was it a good choice!! First, the restaurant itself looked like a standard pizza shop but it was very clean and they had some good tunes going. The staff were lovely, friendly, helpful and efficient. But when I tell you I saved the best for last I am not exaggerating. The pizzas are top notch. My hubby ordered one with the lot, I had a BBQ chicken on a gluten free base. Both were topped with a very generous amount of toppings and they were absolutely delicious. One of the best pizzas I ever had and certainly the best gluten free pizza! I recently had the pleasure of dining at Taranto's Pizza, and I can confidently say it has quickly become my favorite pizza spot! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the super friendly staff who made me feel right at home. Their hospitality was top-notch, and nothing seemed too much hassle for them.

Now, let's talk about the pizzas! They were absolutely delicious—fresh ingredients, and the bases were perfectly crisp, just the way I like them. Each bite was a flavorful delight, and you can truly taste the quality.
