Edit after response: They claim it's a logistics issue with a aseperate kitchen, but it's literally the same area, with Verde being the outdoor section. So if you want to sit outside, they raise the average cheque (have a more expensive menu with the same food suppliers.) That's all it is. So if you want fresh air, you must pay more money. It shows where we were sitting in the photo. Such a logistics issue. It's better if you just don't reposed and stop using chat gpt.
The Gateway is attempting to position Verde as a standalone, upscale restaurant with a higher price point, which makes sense for raising the average check. However, the execution of this strategy has some clear shortcomings, particularly when it clashes with the family-friendly atmosphere of the rest of the venue.
I recently visited and was seated in the outdoor Verde area, hoping to enjoy the more refined setting. However, when I tried to order from the sports bar menu, I was rudely informed that I could not do so while sitting in the Verde space. This felt like a disconnect between the upscale dining concept of Verde and the practical reality of The Gateway being a regional pub that's popular with families and children. Many families, myself included, appreciate the flexibility of ordering from the sports bar, which offers a more casual and accessible menu. Restricting this option felt unnecessarily rigid and unaccommodating.
While I understand that The Gateway is trying to elevate Verde, this strategy feels out of place within the context of a pub that caters primarily to families looking for a relaxed dining experience. It would make more sense to integrate the two areas more thoughtfully, perhaps by offering clearer communication about the menu boundaries or allowing some flexibility for those enjoying the outdoor area. As it stands, the current approach just seems frustrating, especially when the casual, family-friendly vibe of the pub clashes with the more exclusive feel of Verde.
I hope The Gateway can reconsider its approach to create a more seamless experience for guests, as the current setup just ends up irritating people rather than enhancing...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHave seen lots of commercials stating how good the tavern is and my wife and I thought that we would finally try it as we enjoy eating at nice locations. However, this was not a pleasant experience as we were having difficulty identifying which door to enter through and tried the gold entrance. Upon entering we realised that we were in the gaming area. We saw what looked like the bistro right next to the gaming room so proceeded in that direction. There was my wife, a friend and I and we had our 10 month old baby in a pram. Just as we were about to enter the bistro area someone behind us yell "Oi" from across the room which we did not initially realise it was at us until we heard "Oi" again right behind us. In my opinion it sounded like someone yelling at a dog. As we turned around a female staff member was standing right behind me so that when I turned she was inches from my face. She commenced telling us that no one under 18 years old was allowed in the gaming area. I replied "yes" confused as to who she was talking about and she pointed at our baby and said "her, how old is she?" I attempted to apologise and explain that we had never been there and were trying to find the bistro, to which she ignored and continued to speak to us in a rude, aggressive tone. She then made us walk right back through the gaming area to exit the building instead letting us exit the gaming area into the bistro through the door right next to us. There was no attempt by this staff member to identify our issue or to assist us in any way. Due to this we left the premises and went to another restaurant where we enjoyed a lovely meal and were attended to by staff that went above and beyond what we expected to help us and make our experience enjoyable and pleasant. I can say that we will not be returning to the tavern if this is what they considered...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve never experienced such discrimination. Me and my boyfriend went there for our anniversary dinner. When we arrived a girl asked us if it was a table for two and if we wanted to sit inside or outside. We chose inside and went in to choose a table when we were stopped by an older woman who asked if we were both over 18. My boyfriend is 18 and Iām 17 so we told her that only he was 8 and she was like āunfortunately you canāt eat here tonight because under 18s have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.ā She said he couldnāt act as my supervisor bc heās by boyfriend and the reason it felt discriminatory is because I asked her if it was about like alcohol and stuff and she said no it was incase I was a āmisbehaving teenagerā. We didnāt want to start anything and we didnāt rlly want to eat there anymore because of what she had said. She told us if we try to go anywhere else they wonāt let us in because itās the law but then later in the conversation told us to go down to Mr Bun Mi? It just didnāt make any sense. I called some friends who Ik have partners that are 17 and they all said thatās not a true thing and itās not even gateway rules. A girl Ik who just started training there said that that tule is for 12 and unders and if youāre just trying to eat, no alcohol, no pokies, you should be allowed. We were also left with no ride because we were dropped off. When I think of my anniversary night this experience is all Iāll...
