We’ve been through the big wooden doors at Woodhouse a couple of times now. The service so far has always been friendly & attentive, the food good & coffee really good. We pre ordered 2 regular lattes while we looked over the menu which had changed since we last sat down, ordering an eggs Benedict & eggs on sourdough (scrambled) adding bacon & house made hash brown. At $27 a piece, the prices seemed slightly high but the portions were of a good size.
The Benny’s eggs were soft, the maple bacon was pleasantly thickly sliced (but was akin to ham or Kaiser) & the sauerkraut had a nice tang adding depth of flavour. A good portion & neat arrangement of scrambled eggs sat proudly on buttered sourdough, they were soft & creamy. To one side was a golden portion of house made hash & 2 rashers of bacon - the hash was made from a smash/mash potato & baked, ok but not as nice as a traditional grated potato version. All up we enjoyed our visit & will definitely return, maybe you should walk through the big wooden door to find...
Read moreThe WoodHouse serves up hot and fresh jaffles with sides in a fun twist on old favourites. However, be wary of what you choose. I ordered The French, which was a devilish take on the classic ham and cheese, with the addition of bechamel sauce and sides of French fries and dijonnaise dipping sauce. It looked very pretty and the fries and dipping sauce were delicious. However, the jaffle itself was lacking balance. The cheese and bechamel sauce was quite overpowering and there was only a thin layer of ham. With so many fats on one plate there needed to be something to break it up. Even if there was more ham, the smokiness would have cut through the wads of cheese and sauce. But heck, if you're after an extreme serve of gooey cheese after a Friday night on the town this one might be for you. The cafe itself is quite large and humble in design and they were plenty busy for a Tuesday morning. So if you're in town and want to try something classic with a twist to warm you up during winter, give the...
Read moreReading some previous reviews for this little cafe ,my husband and I dropped in for lunch today at approx 1.30ish was advised to take a seat and someone would bring a menu ,we waited patiently for nearly 10 min it was like previous review as if we were invisible others were attended to immediately while we waited .i had to go and ask for someone to come to us ,only then did they notice us .We ordered( order was not written down )and as a result some of it was forgotten ,we had to again get up and ask for the rest of our meal . I do think it is as previous customers wrote if your over 50 in our case 70 you have to wait or go to the end of the line no matter how long you have been waiting . We won’t be back Our rare lunch outing cost a bit over $56 meal was nice tasty hot fresh . Would help if you had a better system where only 1 staff at a time out the back in garden area and another checking tables inside . Not sure how you...
