The only thing I'm disappointed about is that I have not visited Hide sooner. That is probably all that needs to be said however, here’s some finer reflections:
The night began with imbibing a French Martini and Elderflower Paloma cocktail. Swift service provided amazing drinks, timed perfectly with the first set of starters.
Whilst seemingly counterintuitive ordering seafood at steak bar, we delved into the abyss and sampled the squid and scallops. The results were nothing short of astounding with serves of delectable seafood starters at a steak joint! Despite the slight mishap of the squid being missed initially, it was quickly remedied and arrived at the table once the attentive staff were notified. Both the squid and scallop was perfectly portioned and just enough to whet appetite, so we decided order a bit of a carb hit by adding the baba ganoush from the tapas menu at the same time.
Fancying myself as a baba ganoush connoisseur, I welcomed the serving with my monocle firmly in place ready for inspection. With steaming house made flat bread, I dove in with anticipation and was once again deeply satisfied. Delicious Parafield Olives were served on the side as an amazing accoutrement for a pretty good ‘noush’. The bread really punched above it’s labelled ‘flat bread’ weight being light and airy and fluffy and hot to the tasty touch. I find it so easy to get sidetracked by good bread and baba ganoush!
Interlude: more drinks were had... An ‘old Wagyu’ which was a great spin on an Old Fashioned and a Cosmo Litchy were quick to the table and simply fantastic. The place was buzzing at this stage. It’s a noisy place but in a good vibe, not rowdy kinda way. Staff on point with no lag between table visits.
Two mains ordered and time for the main show had arrived: Brick Chicken and Mixed Grill! Carving the Brick a moment in time. Served on a smooth bed of polenta this is seriously the best Breast Chicken I have ever eaten (disclaimer – I am shamelessly biased for thigh chicken) though take care when cutting the corn as the cob it still attached.
Final main was the Mixed Grill. The fillet of beef = yum (special mention - so perfectly cooked the simple motion of moving the knife was enough to carve it without any downward pressure). The duck breast = yum ; the lamb sausage = yum. On any other plate I would happily say these were all sublime cuts of meat. However, hiding in plain sight was the pork belly just waiting for its moment. This little morsel separated and elevated itself by a country carving mile! A succulent pork belly meal is the zeitgeist of our age and I am glad I was there to enjoy it 😊
My only other disappointment was I did not have room for dessert. I will be back, hungry for more of the best food I have ever eaten in...
Read moreWas hesitant to try this place and unfortunately my waiting was right on point. First, I say the greeting was above expectation, due to a full house. We were immediately sat to our reserved table near the bar area. We ordered the beef tasting, which was Highly recommended, but for the price it didn't live up to what was expected. The entrees are delightful but they didn't offer a substitution of what comes out. Moving on to the steak portion is where the disappointment starts. Three rather small portions of steak and one of the steaks which was the Wagyu Hanging Tender, which was VERY VERY Chewy. Nothing Tender about it. Having to force my steak down, isn't a good thing. Also, I'd mention the delay after the entrees were finished and we notice we didn't have our original waitress once our mains came out. Every time we requested service it appeared we bothered her. My desert fondant was on point, but my wife's portion was missing the fudge, was cold and dry. A true lack of consistency I'd like to share. Finally, I want to point out the bottle of wine we purchased can't be taken out of the restaurant due to Non-licensing. I'm sorry but I usually don't consume an entire bottle of wine while eating dinner. Also, I'd like to point out the waitress didn't make this known when we ordered and I think its very obvious they only have two bottles by the glass. So, they don't have wine tastings, minimal choice by the glass, and the bottle you purchase, you cant take bottle home with you. And to make matters worse, an elderly couple approached us and offered their $110 bottle of wine to us since they couldn't take it with them. When I grabbed the bottle off their table, the bar waitress approached us quickly and said "I'm just wondering what your doing" , implying, How dare you take that bottle of wine. My Wife replied explaining the couple acknowledged their disappointment of wasting a whole bottle of wine and offered to us as a kind gesture. And clearly the bar waitress showed her intentions to safe guard what she didn't pay for for her...
Read moreThis place is truly bizarre!! Undoubtedly the food is superb! It's generally well cooked, innovative, and with lots of variety and good quality. But the service is just weird. We were seated, and without having been given any menus asked if we were ready to order. Part way through eating our entrée, literally with fork in hand, we were asked if they could take the plates away. Then having just been served our main course we were asked if we were going to want desert. When we asked if we could leave that decision until we actually finished our mains a different waiter came back 5 minutes to explain that the kitchen will have to turn off equipment and start cleaning and need to know if we're going to have dessert or not. They have 2/2 hour sittings per night (6-8 and 8-10) and it was 9:05 - an hour into the second sitting. One of our $30 cocktails was served in a plastic coffee cup. Apparently there were specials but we were never told. I ordered an entree to be told that that it was sold out. I ordered a second entree to be told that that was also sold out. So I then asked “Is there anything else that isn't available before I order a third time”? to be told “No ‘pretty much’ everything on the menu is available!! As our desserts were served we were also brought the bill. But not giving any indication as to how we would pay it. 20 minutes later I walked to the counter to ask if I needed to go there to pay it. I was asked “How was everything?” My response was that “the service was bizarre and all over the place” and the maitre-d' just chuckled and handed me the machine to pay the bill … pointing out that I...
