I generally enjoy Red Rooster. In the city, the food is prompt, well cooked, and tasty. Unfortunately the Red Rooster in Warrnambool leaves a lot to be desired.
The staff are overworked and underpaid. Their service is a reflection of the care and attention invested into the business by the owner, Anthony (Tony) Baldwin.
When you step into the store, immediately you notice how filthy the floors are. The vinyl is old, and black with filth. It has not been replaced in at least half a decade and it is abundantly clear that the current cleaning procedures are not sufficient.
The kitchen is entirely open and it is messy, run down, and every surface looks to be covered in grease. It has also not been maintained or updated in over a decade.
On Labour Day weekend of 2024, I ordered through the app and went in to pick up my food. It was average, and far worse than most other franchise - excluding another I've visited that is unlucky enough to have been run by Tony Baldwin.
After finishing our meal, my family became incredibly ill. We were incapacitated for 24 hours, and I contacted Red Rooster with my best guess as to what specific food items may have been responsible to aid Tony in dealing with the community health hazard.
Tony's return email offered no sympathy, and no compensation. He instead requested I pay out of pocket to take my family to a GP to provide him medical evidence before he would refund me my money.
Not only is it appalling that I would contract an illness from this store in the first place, but it is absolutely despicable that a business owner would not even extend assurance that they would be looking into any potential outbreak.
I would very much urge anybody thinking about eating here to reconsider, if not to avoid illness, but to avoid giving any of their money to Tony Baldwin, a man who takes so little pride in his business that he allows the floors to be black with filth, and the bathrooms to reek from the front door when opened.
Buyer beware.
Edit: not sure if Tony has amnesia or if he just throws that canned response to everyone, but...
Read moreI mix it up between : KFC, the Wok, the chicken place in Fairy St. McDonalds, Kermonds, Red Rooster (where I always get: the quarter roast with vegies and the gravy). Fiesta Pizza, Hungry Jacks etc ; then I find a convenient scenic lookout and enjoy eating, but I do mix it up between what's on offer. This has always been my method. As it is only about utilising and supporting the different options available, to living in range to such places. We certainly don't miss out on anything. But my tip is I mix it up, between what is on offer. And ; what I can produce, myself, frequently make up picnic hampers. (Sandwiches, deli meats, dry biscuits and dip, fruit and drink based hampers). So, in Warrnambool there is Hungry Jack's, McDonald's, Kermonds, the mobile spud train, the wok, Subway, China City, Fiesta (and other pizza places), all those eateries that are down the south end of Liebig Street, and the ones situated in Kepler, and Fairy Streets, and in the various shopping centres located throughout Warrnambool ; all the milk bar mixed business take away food shops , all the different bakeries, the many roadside petrol station options plus ; all the food outlets and restaurants in neighbouring towns as well. There are ample options, variety and choices. Also the many hotels which do meals. And again in neighbouring places too people. So I ; merely try out the available options and return visit to my favourites. Like anyone with that sort of business savvy does. But food options are an abundance. It is truly...
Read moreIndifferent staff (five staff on at the time, three out of five doing absolutely nothing- one cooking, one doing drive thru. One dude with a long, curly 'fro flipping his majestic, unfettered locks about in the kitchen). Incredibly sticky floor- to the point that our shoes made noises like velcro ripping when we moved. We forgot to order sauce. My daughter waited at the counter, ignored for five uncomfortable minutes, while the girl serving flirted with an off duty staff member who had ordered food. They talked about other staff members and customers from their last shift. Should have cut our losses, but nooo- thought the time invested would pay off. It did not. My partner dipped a nug in sauce, but noticed two short hairs on it as he was about to pop it in his mouth. No one else wanted to continue eating. Yes- this was reported through Red Rooster via their QR code. Just go...
