When a famous and successful restaurant chain starts its new branch we expect a few things, consistency, good service, good ambiance and tasty food which the other branches are known for.
Well don't have any expectations when visiting this A2B.
I've been here many times in the hope that the experience that I had might be a one time one.
Location and ambiance: The location is good with ample parking and the restaurant has an appeal. Inside it has ample seating capacity. The restaurant has a warm, bright and welcoming atmosphere. you will feel like you are inside an A2B if you have been to one in India. But the entire mood is spoiled by a huge tv and speaker in the wall. Loud music and big screen will kill your mood and good luck to the people sitting below the TV. Not only you will have a loud and un pleasent time but everyone who is looking at the tv will also be observing you eat.
Food: Food is tasty, if I compare with the other A2B's I'll say par. Tasty but not consistent. Quantity in comparison I felt it is a bit less. I say that because we were served dosas with one spoon chutney (seriously dude how do you expect me to eat that) for the bucks that you pay it's tasty but portion wise it's less.
Service: Oh boy! Worst. Multiple people attend your table you will be confused to whom you ordered. They forget some of your order. This might be because the Gally and the service is in general is a chaos with too many people.
Timings: Be there before 9:30 if you want food even though they mention 10 you will be greated with a wat the.. attitude if you turn up close to 9:30 with a look on ther face like you've committed some crime.
If you want tasty food (without any comparison or expectations) wola! This is the place but dont expect anything else. Said that hope they sort these issues if they do then you are looking at one of the best Indian...
Read moreMy wife and me visited this place on Saturday evening. Wanted to eat dosa and thought of giving this place a try. The place is well lit, spacious and an abundance of staff. Having worked in hospitality for the last 25 years, this part was a pleasant surprise. The food was all right. It is not something that will make you want to go there another time to sample the food. But it was nice. The dosa came accompanied by a couple of chutneys and a sambar. The filling was, again OK. After finishing the meal, we sat around talking and that is when I saw something that was absolutely shocking. The kitchen pass, the window into which the cooks prepare the meal and place into for the service staff to take away, is a bit high. Around shoulder height. I saw the cook place two plates of, dosas or something similar on the pass. One person approached the pass to pick it up. As I was watching I did not realise this person was a service staff. All of the service staff was wearing hair nets. This person approaches the pass, looks at the docket and the order. Another person standing behind this first person, then leans forward and picks up a dosa from one of the plates and transfers it to the second one. The second person was also not wearing a hair net, so could not have been a service staff. She had been standing by the pass and was busy on the phone for a while before doing this. I would have hated to have been the person who received and had to consume that order. Why are non-kitchen staff handling the food? Even if they are why aren't they wearing any PPE? Both of us are pretty sure that this is the last time we...
Read moreDetailed review after half a dozen visits. Now since I have spent a few years in Chennai and I used to frequent the OG A2B in Adyar quite often, this is going to be deep dive and critical, and you can count of this one.
Let’s start with the vibe and ambience. It has a classic A2B (small one) vibe with Tamil songs adding a touch of authenticity (transports you straight to Chennai) The place is usually semi-filled and it’s mostly Indians. It does lack the energy and charm of the A2Bs in India, but they have done a decent job with what they had. A solid 4/5
Now to the most important part- the food.
I have tried many things here:
Masala dosa: Delicious but a little too much ghee. 3.5/5 Idli: Now the chutneys are decent, flavourful and pack a punch, but the idlis aren’t as smooth, fluffy and satisfying as I like. 3/5 Mini Thali: Very homely. The rasam is tangy, the sambhar quite flavourful, cabbage poriyal also good. The sweet was average. 4/5 Podi mini idli: Could use chutney with it, but delicious as is too.
Now the pros are that the food is flavourful, homely and decent ingredients, I am so happy that they have not modified the flavour for the Australian palette.
A major con is that I have witness a stark inconsistency in flavours. Some days the food is great and some days very average.
Overall 4/5
The service is decent too. Nothing standout, but good enough....
