My experience at this restaurant was far from satisfactory.
Given its name, Cairo, I was anticipating authentic Egyptian flavors, but unfortunately, that expectation wasn’t met. However, this wasn’t the main issue.
One of my orders was the mixed grill, and the beef cubes were severely undergrilled. Again, this could have been overlooked, but the real problem began when I attempted to provide constructive feedback to a member of staff. Instead of engaging professionally and turning the bad experience to a good one, he responded rudely, insisting that they always cook the beef medium-well and it was my responsibility to inform them otherwise. While I understand preferences vary, I pointed out that it’s common practice to ask customers how they prefer their meat cooked—especially for a dish like mixed grill. His response was dismissive, arguing that it's their standard and the onus was on me to make any adjustments.
What followed was a 15-minute debate over what should have been a straightforward conversation about quality and service. Rather than taking my feedback on board, I was told that it’s up to the customer to request further cooking if the food arrives underdone. This approach to customer service is laughable and frankly, unacceptable.
For a restaurant that charges above average prices, you would expect a complete dining experience. Sadly, the service was disappointing, and the staff displayed a complete lack of professionalism and personal skills. I would strongly recommend the management invest in customer service training.
While the food itself wasn’t terrible, the overall experience leaves much to be desired. I do not recommend...
Read moreI would have given this a higher rating as the food according to the people I dined with, was delicious. Only problem was that I was too scared to order much as there was serious problems with fully letting customers know what was gluten-free. Their menu has a simple statement at the top, stating that everything was gluten-free except for the pita bread and the wraps. This was completely false as I could see plenty of items that were not gluten-free such as pastry wrapped food and items with cracked wheat, etc. When I pointed this out to the staff, it became clear that they had no idea how serious it can be for someone who is coeliac to be exposed to gluten. I asked what flour they used in their pastry and was told it was "normal". I asked again if it was gluten-free and she said yes even though she had admitted the flour was not gluten-free. I was too scared to eat anything and ended up just ordering some pickled vegetables which was not what I really wanted. Middle-eastern food is my favourite cuisine and I have dine many times in other restaurants and never had this issue.
Sadly, the venue had zero atmosphere. The tables are sterile as are the floors and walls. All middle-eastern restaurants that I have dined in have lovely tapestries on the wall, beautiful mosaic lamps on the table, cushions for those who want to sit on the floor, etc. The front door was faulty and would not close and a very cold breeze blew in constantly making it unpleasant. The staff were nice but had no appreciation of the seriousness of being so negligent in regards to clearly indicating what is gluten-free. Sadly, I won't be...
Read moreThe food is good, the atmosphere is below average and the service, not very good to below average I’m afraid. We visited while a lady was working the front counter and things were fine, the kitchen was full of workers and food came out relatively fast bear in mind we got in just before the dinner rush. We visited again on another day for a takeaway and the service was terrible. Some context: kitchen looked quiet, one girl at the counter and 2 gentlemen in the kitchen, I order 2 Pizzas and get told 25-30 minutes. (brilliant I think!) 40 minutes go by and I ask politely if the order will be ready soon. “5 minutes your pizza will be ready”, another 15 minutes later I am handed my pizza with not as much as a sorry for the wait or anything. So all in all I am waiting there for pretty much an hour when given the expectation of half of that time frame. If I had been told 45 minutes to an hour I would have walked away and not written this review. The restaurant had 2 customers in there but if there was a line of orders for takeaway ahead of me, give me a realistic time frame instead of leaving me in the dark and trying to avoid eye contact with me. Also, $40 for two pizzas is insane guys, please restructure your margins or at least offer better value in the form of a meal or...
