We have been wanting to go to Grain for a while, and this time around, after dropping someone off at the airport, we had the perfect opportunity to.
We went there with an appetite and they seemed to have quite a few options to make us happy.
Let’s start with the ambience, per usual.
The bakery felt a bit underwhelming in terms of vibe. There wasn’t much of an inviting or chirpy atmosphere you’d expect from a vibrant bakery. Seating is limited, and while there is space to sit, it lacks charm. It could also be because we visited late.

Food & Drinks:
Cappuccino: Smooth and well-balanced. No complaints. 4/5
Tea: Standard, nothing standout. 3/5
Chilli Chicken Focaccia Sandwich: Delicious! The focaccia was nicely toasted — crunchy on the outside, soft inside. The filling was flavourful and satisfying.
4.5/5
Falafel Sandwich: This was a letdown. Served cold, the falafels became dry and unappetizing. The extra bread layer didn’t help either. Serving it warm might make a huge difference.
2/5
Service: No major complaints. The staff were decent, and the service moved at a good pace.

✅ Final Verdict: 3.5/5
Didn’t try too much this time, but we’re keen to go back and explore more of the menu. Hopefully, the vibe is better...
Read moreVisited about 5 times and the line/ordering situation is the same everytime. The way the line is set up- you can't actually see any of the pastries (especially the cabinet on the left) until you are at the very front AND there are no other customers ordering in front of the cabinet you would like to view. Then after waiting in the line for however long (dont mind queuing) you are immediately asked what you would like to order once you get inside the door- which is hard because a) can't see any of the food in the line and b)there's usually other customers ordering so again can't see the pastries. Whilst taking a minute to actually see what is available, you are asked at least 3 times by different staff members what you would like to order. If, I had a chance to view through the windows the pastries available I could decide this whilst in line- otherwise I'm going to have to wait for everyone to clear the cabinets in order to decide.
Honestly really simple fix- have the line so you can view the pastries whilst waiting to order and have the queue move from a left to right manner. Flow would be much better and customers would move quicker through the store rather than clogging up the...
Read moreI saw people queuing there on a Sunday and wanted to know what the fuss was about. All parking spots were taken. Then there was nowhere to sit down other than public benches across the road. Vanilla Slice was DISGUSTING to say the least as the pastry was soggy and poorly cooked. The layer of strawberry jam on top of it was covering up the dodgy pastry. Always beware of strawberry jam on pastry as it’s an old trick to mask problems. When I asked for paper napkins and wooden fork that turned into a major mission for the school kid serving us and eventually got napkins but they had run out of forks. Next the school kids who work behind the counter cannot make coffee. The paper cup and lid had stains all over as she could not even be bothered to clean up what evidently was a spill. To make matters worse she did not even push the lid on the super hot cup properly, causing the whole cup to fall over the pavement. But the loaf of bread turned...
