Nice clean place for an event but the food wasn't to my liking. I didn't think the food was authentic Italian. I didn't enjoy the experience of dining here for a number of reasons. Firstly I would rate the food 2 out of 5 because it was not as good as my local pub , and even more costly. For example, the main dishes, i.e. the beef brisket snd the porchetta, were dry and overcooked, although the portion size waa generous. The meat was chunky and bland. The pork crackling was not crackle crispy enough, probably because they were served so thick. The pizzas were ok but the dough wasn't oven crispy by the time the pizzas were served. The pasta was tasty but quite dry by the time it was served. It occurred to us all that the cook was probably not really an experienced chef who knew how to manage large group bookings.
Secondly the overall table service was alright, very courteous, but i will rate it 3 out of 5, because I was disappointed that the food took such a long time to be served, because by the time the mains and desserts were served, a third of our friends had left. The restaurant simply took too long to serve the food. And I was quite bewildered that the waitresses didn't appear to write down who ordered what additional items despite our large group size, and we constantly had to wait to get a staff's attention or tell the waitresses about who ordered what. I really couldn't see how they could claim to be "Event Specialist" on their website, other than that they had a nice venue. Ironically, the staff were regularly on the ball to ask us about ordering drinks even though they often could not remember who ordered what when they served the drinks, such that I felt like we were sitting at a pub table rather than in a classy restaurant.
And last but not least, as we were leaving the restaurant at the end of our evening, the icing on the cake was to see and overhear one of managers confronting one or two of the kitchen staff over some unknown issue that had happened that evening, and they were sitting at a high table near the front of the restaurant as we walked passed them on the way to the exit. We could all feel tension in the air as the men talked in serious stern tone. Maybe at that time it was already after official close hours, but you'd think that the staff would keep that sort of "professional" discussion until later after all the customers had left the venue. For this reason, I gave it 3 out 5 for Atmosphere.
I know this restaurant has a good reputation in the local area, so I give it the benefit of doubt that maybe it was just a one-off thing that Sat night. And I'm sure the staff are hardworking. That said, I think it has a lot of work to do for improvement. Overall, 2.5 out of 5 stars if Google review offered...
Read more1 star is an over exaggeration of a terrible experience tonight. When only half the table had arrived & been seated we were approached to place our order. We suggested it might be a nice idea to wait until the other guests had arrived before ordering. From that point it only got worse. Drinks were missing from our order and took quite some time to rectify (we had to ask twice where the missing drinks were). The pizzas were soggy & the scraps of prawn meat recklessly scattered unevenly over the dough may have been the equivalent of 2 whole prawns - it was a disgrace to call that a prawn pizza. The chicken pesto pizza appeared to have no pesto at all. The pastas were awful. The crayfish pasta was undercooked in a sauce that tasted like dish water, nothing like the white wine / lemon sauce described. The dry lumps of crayfish sitting on top of the pasta were flavourless & overcooked. The meatball pasta was mediocre. The carbonara (that was forgotten & delivered 10 minutes after all the other meals) was completely inedible. Again undercooked pasta in a sauce that frankly tasted “off”. The brisket was dry and tough.
We have eaten many times at Gucce over the years and tonight was nothing like we’ve experienced here before. Extremely expensive prices for food that was just awful. The service left a lot to be desired. Some of the uneaten meals were deducted from the bill but it didn’t cover the amount of uneaten food left on the table.
We won’t be back - this level of over priced “food” doesn’t deserve a...
Read moreWe called in advance and we were told that they cater for vegans. But when we reached it was clear that there was no vegan cheese etc. We are small eaters so ordered a garlic focaccia to share which is good! We asked the waitress to get us a pumpkin and ricotta triangloli which had truffle creme so we requested it to be made in olive oil with truffles. We were served a bland pasta with zero flavour of truffles, just swimming in olive oil. We requested for some truffle oil so that we can add some flavour and we were told , " You know that truffles are mushrooms right? " by one of the Indian owners who have recently taken over the restaurant. After that we were again given plain olive oil with no truffles.
It was extremely disappointing as this used to be a wonderful restaurant with amazing food. We have been several times and always had a great experience. I'm sorry to write this review but new owners need to maintain the essence of the restaurant otherwise it's just another ordinary place...
