We usually love this place but our last 2 visits have been disappointing.
Firstly (and most importantly!) the staff are all lovely. Issues were rectified immediately without a problem, the staff are friendly and happy - wonderful team.
Unfortunately the food has really gone downhill.
Our second to last visit we ordered the pork knuckle. The crackling was inedible and the meat itself was unpleasant. Fair enough, sometimes you get a bad dish. If it was a one off, I wouldn't bother writing a review.
Our last visit (yesterday) we decided to get the chefs special platter. Smash burgers, brisket Tacos, pork pie, chipolatas, chips, and salad. The best thing on the platter were the smash burgers, and they were honestly very boring. The driest, least smashed smashed burger I've ever had. A cheeseburger from McDonalds would have been far nicer. Our Tacos were without brisket - they literally forgot to put it on. When informed, they rectified the problem straight away and gave us an extra Taco aswell (as I said, wait staff were great). However, the Tacos were really awful. Very overpowering flavour of what seemed to be lime. Just not good at all. The pork pie - I had one bite and could not have another. Absolutely disgusting. And the 'chipolatas' were one sausage which was pretty much a coles thin BBQ sausauge. Chips were good, luckily. $80 for this platter, and honestly I would have been disappointed to have paid even half that.
Before our meal, I ordered 2 drinks (tap, nothing fancy) via the table app. 20 minutes later, they still hadn't arrived (and the place wasn't very busy). I chased them up and it turns out the order had been lost behind a printer. Staff were lovely and got our drinks straight away at that point. A little annoying that the app used for convenience was more trouble than it was worth, but it seems that's more of a venue issue that needs to be looked at.
We have chosen the indi over the boat the last few times because it's been far quieter and more relaxed. But I now think the reason for that is because the food has gotten so bad.
We will definitely give it one more shot and just make sure we do not order off the specials board. I'm of the opinion that they must be getting rid of their terrible food via "specials" and this is why our last 2 meals have been awful. However, if the food off the a la carte menu is just as bad, I think unfortunately that will be our last visit. And possibly a coincidence, but hubby and my tummys have both been terrible today too.
Sorry to the Indi staff - I'm only writing this review so you all are aware that something funky is going on in that kitchen and hopefully whatever the problem is can be fixed.
Thanks again to the wait staff and bar staff for...
Read more“Indian Ocean Brewing Company”—what a name! It conjures up images of salty sea breezes, crashing waves, and perhaps a hint of seaweed-infused ale. But alas, my culinary voyage to this establishment was more like a gentle paddle in a kiddie pool than a daring expedition across the high seas. Let’s start with the steak. Oh dear, it arrived at the table looking like it had been slapped around by a hangry kangaroo. Tough as a crocodile’s hide, it was. I half-expected it to leap off the plate and challenge me to a duel. The seasoning? Well, it must have been sprinkled on from a helicopter because it was nowhere to be found. And the presentation? A chaotic swirl of wilted greens and a lonely cherry tomato, as if the chef had thrown a tantrum and flung them onto the plate. Next up, the burger. Now, I’ve seen better-looking burgers at a roadside food truck during a monsoon. The bun was squashed flatter than a pancake under a boulder. And the patty? It had the personality of a damp sponge. The cheese clung to it like a desperate koala clinging to a eucalyptus tree. And don’t get me started on the “special sauce.” It tasted like disappointment mixed with regret. Ah, the apple juice. A beacon of hope in this culinary shipwreck. It arrived in a glass that looked like it had been rescued from a shipwreck itself—scratched and cloudy. But the juice within was surprisingly refreshing. It danced on my tongue like a tipsy kangaroo doing the waltz. Perhaps the chef should stick to beverages and leave the solid food to someone who knows their way around a kitchen. Now, let’s talk about the service. The staff were as friendly as a mob of wallabies at a picnic. They chatted, smiled, and even managed to suppress their laughter when I attempted to cut the steak with a butter knife. Kudos to them for maintaining their composure. But alas, friendliness alone cannot save a sinking culinary ship. In summary, the Indian Ocean Brewing Company left me feeling like a lost sailor stranded on a deserted island. The food was a tempest of mediocrity, and the service was a lifebuoy in a sea of disappointment. If you’re ever in the area, I recommend swimming a little farther to find a more flavorful reef. Read moreI come here sometimes with my partner and enjoy a pizza and a pint, it’s normally pretty good. However, I had my birthday dinner here last week and I was extremely disappointed. The service in the restaurant wasn’t good, our table was neglected all night. We all ordered at the same time, but our food came out with 15-20 minute intervals. I asked for my 5 year old’s food to be brought out first, I didn’t even care about the rest of us, but she was hungry and upset as it was taking so long. 35 minutes after I asked this (and almost an hour and a half after ordering), her food was the last to be brought to the table. Not only was I disappointed with this service, but the quality of our meals were not great either. I couldn’t finish my Thai Beef Salad as it was so dry and flavourless, and my daughter’s “chicken tenders” looked inedible. She could only eat the chips, and after the long wait, we had no energy to deal with anyone else or complain. My sister also ordered a pizza, when it was finally brought over, she was informed that half the ingredients had run out in the kitchen. She would not have ordered the meal if that was the case and was very disappointed. I empathise with the young man that was essentially by himself on the floor all night, it was busy and he had minimal help. I don’t blame him for our experience at all and he really did try to help as much as he was able to. The manager on duty seemed stressed, and dismissive. While I completely understand that this is a stressful industry, the way he disregarded our complaints was not okay. As a hospitality worker myself, and someone who has been in management, I strongly suggest staffing more adequately for the needs of your venue. Our table alone was a 16PAX, and there were more large tables. The poor waiter was simply run off his feet and alone all night, with the exception of one extra food runner occasionally. I’m normally not one to complain, but I was so upset after our experience and I don’t know if...
