The rudest bartender I’ve seen so far
We regularly visit the varsity bar in Nedlands (Crawley). Last night took my family along with one of our friends and their kids. As usual ordered some foods and our drinks. I asked for glass of Coke with no ice along with other drinks/cocktails. When I noticed the bartender reached for the ice to put in the glass, I reminded him (very politely) that I asked for no ice in the coke please. He looked at me and said no you did not! And continued saying that “I would have charged you more if you’d say no ice as it would cost us more!”. I said I did ask for no ice in the coke and I don’t want you to loose money and happy to pay the difference if it cost more (even though I was thinking that I’ve never had to pay extra in any places when I requested no ice as my son doesn’t like ice in his drink and that’s something that I’ve ordered a lot of times and in many different places including Varsity before). So, he said ok $3.00 more and I immediately paid the extra $3.00 on top of the bill I had already paid for the foods and drinks. Then I noticed that he’s pouring a different beer instead of the one that I ordered (Balter Hazy instead of Feral Biggie Juice), so I reminded him that’s not what I ordered. He sighed and pour the beer that I’d requested. Still nagging that “you hadn’t requested no ice !”
I’d already had paid the difference as I mentioned above and to me the matter was already over and I’d moved on, but it seemed that he didn’t want to let it go. I believe his name was Roy (the guy with beard and moustache and wearing a blue Coors beer T-shirt and a black baseball cap). It is a shame as this place has been one our favourite spots for both foods and drink and I’m sorry for the low score that I gave for my experience on the night of 12/July/2022 at 8:30 PM,however, I believe that the management should be aware of the issue as I’ve never been treated so poorly in any bar/restaurants in...
Read moreI don't usually come here for the food, I come here to play a niche arcade rhythm game called Maimai, which is only available in 4 places in perth, with Varsity being one of them.
I'd like to commend the managers of this place for having the courage to break into the arcade market and especially the rhythm game market. There is definately an audience that very much appreciates having you as an option to visit.
But the thing that sets Varsity apart from all the other arcades is that you can see that the staff and especially the higher ups really do care about everyone who comes in and plays. When the arcade originally recieved MaiMai, I was luckily enough to meet a bunch of the lovely staff who I had really nice chats to and even let me play a bit for free and shot some videos of me which looked really insane!!
Not only will I be coming back regularly to play, I will continue to support such a great spot that has us in mind, and me and the greater community really...
Read moreSecond time here and another let down. First time, I ordered the nachos and they advised me that they were out of nachos chips so it was served on regular fries. It was not very nice, and an IGA (that can supply nacho chips) is 10 metres away but I get it... it gets too busy for staff sometimes Second time - I went for the birria beef nachos again and they let me know that they were out of the beef topping, but they could replace it for me with the pulled pork. Sounded fine to me, but I noticed they were then going to charge me $3 extra for that... really? So I went with the veggie nachos instead because, seriously?? I ordered sour cream on the side, but while waiting for the food, they told me they were out of sour cream and they weren't going to replace it with something else. So I still got charged extra for a topping I didn't receive. I know it's no fancy restaurant but for the price they charge, very unimpressive service...
