I normally don't write reviews but I am compelled to write for my atrocious dining experience with Monggo- possibly the worst Indonesian restaurant I have been to- To start the Gado Gado is the worst that I have ever had ( and I am Indonesian) It was so BAD!!! the dish does not remotely resemble or taste like the original Gado Gado- it came out on a very small plate with no ketupat (rice cakes),tofu, tempeh, crackers and thick peanut sauce- since when does gado gado have corn kernels and get this- they charge $7 if you want tempeh and tofu to be added- the nerve! Gado gado should have tempeh, tofu and ketupat already and having to pay extra for the standard ingredients is CRIMINAL! and DO NOT ORDER their beef rendang- OMG! I was so shocked when the dish came out in a tiny ramekin containing 4 pieces of beef with watery gravy and accompanied by store bought roti! so bloody disappointing! and do not order the barramundi with sambal matah- the fish was deep fried to the point of being dry and tasteless! HORRIBLE! No wonder- Indonesians DO NOT DINE at this place as they know better! Most of the patrons are westerners who do not know better. A highly disappointing and frustrating dining experience. If you want excellent Indo food- avoid this place and go to Batavia, Bintang, Dapur Van Java in Vic Park or Totally Rendang...

Monggo Restaurant has been a favourite place to eat for the last five years. The food was consistently good and the servings generous. However, on Saturday night I went there for the first time since they reopened and something has gone drastically wrong. The food is now not only tasteless, but the servings are now tiny. My seafood dish consisted on a very small fillet of fish, one prawn and a couple of skewers of awful mussels swimming in a sauce that tasted like watered down sweet chilli sauce out of a bottle. It was dreadful. The friend I was with had an equally tasteless meal, even smaller than mine. Unfortunately, Monggo is no longer on the "favourites" list.

Response to the owner: It seems you are trying to make me look bad and shift the blame to me. Firstly, you did NOT ask if we were en joying the food - we had to call you over. Secondly, we did NOT shout, we did NOT make a scene. We are professional people who can afford a meal out and we do NOT scam restaurants. We finished the meal because it was so small it was only about 6 mouthfuls, and it was too late to go anywhere else on a Saturday night. You are right about Karma - if you do not improve the quality of your food, you will lose many more customers.

PS: We took our own...

We came to try out their West Java Feast menu promotion, which included a free flow of anything on the special menu which meant that if we wanted more of a particular item, we were more than welcome to order more for no extra cost. We ended up with very full bellies and only topped up with extra rice. The portions were more than enough for the two of us.

Everything was flavourful and cooked to perfection. The chicken was very well seasoned and tender, the fish had a gorgeous crunch on the outside and flaky juicy inside. The rice, tofu and vegetables were paired nicely with the meats. The menu overall had the right balance of sweet, salty, tangy with variety of textures that complimented everything well.

Not to mention how absolutely amazing the service was. When we booked for the feast earlier that afternoon, they made sure everything was prepared and ready for our reservation that night. We waited maybe 10 minutes when we arrived before it all started coming onto our table. Our servers were so friendly and accommodating.

Overall we were very impressed with this hidden gem. Service, food and atmosphere was amazing. Will be coming back to try the food in their normal menu and recommending our friends and...

Bought a $39 Groupon for an Indonesian banquet for 2 people, usual price $95.30! After collecting the food, I contacted the restaurant, asked if the price was correct and they confirmed that, yes, they would usually charge $95.30 for this "banquet". Here's the inclusions Nasi kuning: yellow rice Sambal balado Tempe crackers Ayam geprak: Javanese style chicken fried Maryland with mild homemade Balado sauce Tahu kuning: fried tofu Gado-gado: Jakarta steamed spring vegetables, boiled egg, homemade peanut sauce and prawn crackers Perkedel potato cake Satay beef buntel: grilled skewered beef marinated with lemongrass and galangal Serabi Bandung: three-piece coconut fluffy pancake Kueh lapis: traditional steamed layer cake with banana slices I was very excited, drove 40 minutes for the "banquet". Could not have been more disappointed.

The best place for authentic Indonesian food in whole of Perth indeed. Certified by Indonesian friends as well as has food with tastes to suit everyone. What won my heart even more was the fact that they had separate gluten free, dairy free and an entire separate vegan menu options. The ambience is amazing, and we went for dinner but it seemed like a day we didn't want to end, as the lighting didn't make us feel it was nighttime. Ample cushions on one end and tasteful art from Indonesia adorning the walls. All of us have pledged to be regulars to this quaint gem of a place. Thank you Monggo for taking such good care of us tonight and for excellent service indeed.
