I wish I could give two seperate ratings. I have been to Don Birria 3 times now since opening - the food never disappoints except for when they run out of things (cheese, chips & consommé) hehe. However, this is understandable as they are only a new business - and it never takes away from how good the Birria actually is.
However, last week I visited and was so disappointed with the service. Every other time it has been exceptional. Although, it was very quick last week the lady that took our order from the till was beyond rude. She did not want to be there, she spoke with sass and it wasn’t a good time for any of us. I could even see other customers walking off in disbelief from the way she spoke to them. I work in customer service and understand that sometimes it’s just “not your day” but acting like this to multiple customers isn’t acceptable. Not only did she roll her eyes, she also argued with me about what I had ordered and was annoyed that I asked for a refund (immediately after she took processed the transaction i’ll add) as she had charged us for two of something when I had only asked for 1. She proceeded to say no you didn’t you said 2 and rolled her eyes. I’ll also I went to repeat my order before she actually processed it but she cut me off in huff.
Please fix this guys!! you have amazing food & usually great service but this one bad experience...
Read moreWell, well, well, what can I say about Don Birria in Mount Lawley? I went in with the no expectations, since we were basically invited there by friends, and usually, when that happens, I brace myself for disappointment. Instead, surprise plot twist! The menu is mostly gluten free, and my skeptical little heart jumped with joy. I went for the soft birria tacos and, oh dear lord, they were delicious, juicy, and they even gave me a cup of salsa to dunk those bad boys in, like some kind of taco fondue fiesta. Five stars for the food, no question about it.
Now comes the slightly less spicy part: the vibe. The place feels more like a food truck parked in disguise and, honestly, with just a little effort, they could transform the outside into something cozy and inviting. Right now, it’s giving food truck meets fast food pit stop, but hey, at least the tacos are carrying the whole show.
As for the price, about twenty bucks a head, maybe a bit more with a drink. Pretty fair for Perth, where even air sometimes feels like it costs extra. So, all in all, I’m giving it a solid four stars. Could easily be five if they put some love into the atmosphere, because the tacos are already doing their job like true little heroes...
Read morePretty disappointed with Don Birria. Have been going to them since their Scarborough pop up days, followed them into Mt Lawley. The Scarborough days were awesome; top quality, amazing flavours, good service. The first couple of visits at their Mt Lawley store about a month after they had opened were great too. However, since then, quality has gone down significantly. The last few times we have been there they have consistently been out of stock of items (chips, guacamole, even beef!). The quality of meat has cheapened, the last few times chewing on some extremely fatty bits and having a big piece in the taco that resembled a ventricle (tube-y pieces that were definitely not meant to be in there). Not to mention the quantity served in the tacos has reduced. The tacos have become dry and lack flavour; today they tasted completely bland. There is no standard of quality; every time we have been there it has tasted different or looked different, be it the size of the tacos, the flavours, the dryness. The only reason Don Birria continues to stand is because there is no competition for them to keep up their standard and quality. It has really disappointed us the last few months and we will not...
