came here upon friend recommendation. got the pork katsu set.
while i was waiting i had some shared tonkotsu ramen. the noodles’ texture and taste felt very authentic along with the soup, big up there. weird how they only have 2 ramen options (this or miso) while udon gets every other though. perhaps to keep to traditional style or something
anyway my dish took less than 8 minutes to arrive. very fast. and then you realize how absolutely large this whole set is holy hecc
the rice is extremely generously portioned especially for the price (i legitimately ate all the rice i could and still couldn’t finish it), but it was slightly sticky (starchy??) and soft which i don’t exactly prefer because it clung to everything too easily and i don’t like the texture as much
they cut the pork into quite large slices and also serve it at a generous portion. it is unfortunately not the best texture of meat (a bit gnarly) but they breaded it well and it tastes great with the tonkotsu sauce, though i’ve never seen anywhere else put soy sauce on the same sauce dish (whatever, good for the rice)
the salad was… weird. like it wasn’t bad, don’t get me wrong i’ve had much blander and worse but the last flavor i expected to be the dressing on this is apple (if that’s even???) i did finish it though. finally the miso soup was a refreshing closer that was not too salty or artificial tasting, and easy to finish in a fell swoop.
staff are nice. it was not very busy when we pulled up today (tuesday 12:30) and even less busy when we left just after 13:05. if you’re looking for ideal timing, i think best to come in 30min before 2pm so you don’t get trolled with kitchen close.
chicken katsu curry rice is decent to takeout, obviously lose crisp and heat by the time you eat but it’s more than good enough.
also literally false advertising sunday is the 1 day they’re...
Read moreGenerally ok, there are some dishes here that are good - such as their karaage chicken but others are a bit of a miss.
In terms of value for money then yeah it’s definitely hard to beat, even ohnamiya across the road can’t compete in terms of what you get for what you spend. You will have to order the right dishes as I said before because there are definitely some dishes that aren’t great, but karaage, katsu and teriyaki (the standards) are done well and are safe. Portions are big, enough rice to feed 3 people with the large set. The thing that bugs me though is with the Katsu theyll give you basically enough sauce to cover half a piece of chicken and then charge you for any extra when it’s definitely not enough. Bit conflicting but I guess you gotta make money somehow.
Parking in this complex is a nightmare during popular times, so come prepared to do war for a spot, the venue is large enough to comfortably fit a bit group but it is also a popular place so maybe come earlier or call ahead to get a spot.
Either way - it’s a good fast Japanese alternative with great value. If you are a Kaarage chicken fan then you must...
Read moreI am giving this place 4 stars for the food. They were tasty, presentable, and delicious.
However, I don't want to come back due to very poor service. We waited for over 35 minutes, and we kept on seeing other people who arrived later than us, but they got served first. The table next to us waited too. Then we got excited as they got their food. Next thing, they had already finished their meals and were about to go.
Worst of all, I had to get up and ASK how long our meals will be. The lady who was serving me in the counter looked puzzled and asked me what my number was? I said, "9. They were serving number 23 already! Not even an apology. She just said it is coming now.
No matter how great the food is, if your service is very poor, then your business will not succeed.
The atmosphere is OK, if you don't mind crowded space. Parking also gets very hard around peak hours (lunch).
I'm quite disappointed. If only they would have communicated the delay. After all, there's another staff clearing dishes and by the time our meals arrived, there were fewer people and some tables were...
