I recently had my 21st birthday outside in the beer garden at The Brook. It was a small close friend and family get together with some platters over drinks to catch up. I had no problem at all during the whole time of planning and booking the reservation. On the night we were greeted by welcoming staff, still no problems. Myself and my dad had asked for a Sheepdog Whiskey on ice, and we were told only top shelf liquors were able to be served that way. Which is definitely not right as many other venues we have been to have been more than willing to serve us the drinks we request, as we are very polite and respectful and have never caused any issues. My uncle then asked for a double shot Jamison whiskey with dry, and he was also told no, I'm unsure if the owners are aware that their night staff have completely no idea on how to run a bar. Coming close to 9 pm and we were approached by security and asked to leave. When we asked why he gestured towards my late primary school aged sister, who was happily sitting at a table, supervised by my parents colouring in. At no point was I made aware of any time restrictions or curfews, and I feel extremely attacked that my family was forced to leave as there were other family's in the bistro, who were still there when we had left . I will not be returning to this venue ever, it is my local and I have never had a problem there but for my own family to be kicked out of a venue, not being disorderly or drunk, not being anti social in any way, this is just poor performance from the security staff. A massive shame for a pub within walking distance, that I will never show my...
Read moreWe visited this bar and bistro tonight with our son and had an incredibly upsetting experience. While we were enjoying our time, our son began to walk around (not run or playâjust calmly walking and looking around). Suddenly, another customer began aggressively using the F-word toward our child. Naturally, as parents, we were shocked and concerned.
When my husband approached the man to ask why he was speaking like that to a child, the man responded that it was because our son was walking. I canât understand how that justifies using abusive language toward a small child.
What made matters worse was the staff's reaction. Instead of calming the situation or acknowledging how inappropriate it was for an adult to speak to a child that way, the staff agreed with the customer, saying, âKids shouldnât be walking around.â Walking? Since when is a child walking in a restaurant a punishable offense? There were no signs or policies posted anywhere stating that children cannot walk inside the venue.
Rather than showing empathy or trying to understand our side, the staff essentially sided with the abusive customer and then asked us to leave. No apology, no attempt to defuse the situationâjust a complete lack of basic hospitality and compassion.
To the owner and staff: This isnât about rules or nationality. If it were your child being cursed at by an adult in public, would you be okay with someone saying, âWell, they were just walking, so itâs fine to swear at themâ? Think about that.
We will not be returning, and I would strongly caution any families thinking of...
Read moreBad experience here, had a huge party of people so we were giving this business a lot of money. First, tried to order a meal for my little sister off the kids menu, she is very picky and will not eat most options, the waitress gave us a hard time and would not let her order because she wasn't under 12. I've never been to a place that is that strict about the age limit on a kids menu. So she ended up having to pick something else on the spot. Then food came out an hour later and most guests were not pleased with the food, Then my little brother was the only one to not receive his meal, we had to go up to the front and ask them for it! No water was brought out after we'd finished the first one, I had even asked our waitress for another bottle that was never brought out! Not to mention how disgusting the bathrooms were, toilet paper all over the floors and no paper towels to dry our hands as the hand dryer was out of order, even saw a lady in there with the bathroom door wideeeee open. Insane. I know our group was a lot to handle but this was a family gathering and our last dinner in Australia before heading home back to our country. Just very disappointed in the friendliness of the staff, cost and taste of the food, and cleanliness of the establishment, please do better because that was...
