Tonight was the first time experiencing The Cray in Innaloo. For the special occasion of it being my sister's 27th birthday, taking her to a seafood restaurant, that she requested with my partner seemed fitting. Upon entering, one of the waiters opened the door to let us in with a warm greeting. We made a reservation for the evening and we ordered 2 servings of Garlic bread as a starter for the 3 of us. We did not anticipate the large and thick slices of warm and fresh garlic bread. We may have over ordered the starters. However, we were very please with how tasty and buttery each slice was. The garlic was the perfect amount, making it flavourful. My sister then asked the manager of the restaurant what he recommended for a fruity white wine and he recommended their house prosecco, which she very much enjoyed each sip. I ordered myself the fire engine for nostalgic reasons. For the mains my sister ordered The Royale but half. She was very pleased, and said that it was very fresh and delicious. My partner ordered the Thermadore but half. He also found it very fresh and enjoyed every bite. However he isn't convinced that it was halloumi on the crayfish as advertised - and he is an avid halloumi eater. I myself ordered the Fettuccine but asked the manager the remove the seafood and add chicken as the substitute because I don't eat much seafood. Being that my family comes from Croatian roots, I always lean more towards Italian cuisine. Overall it was delicious but instead of the snow peas, I'd suggest using brocolli. The softness with the creamy sauce would have worked much better in my opinion. Afterwards, they were quick to clear the plates and offered dessert menus, although we didn't order dessert for the night. The customer service was one of the best I have ever seen. One of the waiters had a pleasant conversation with my partner which made us feel like we were at home.
As a side note, the restaurant has so much potential to be a larger restaurant and would be more convenient to have bigger menu options with side add ons and swap out alternatives for people with allergies or preferences. Also unfortunately we struggled to have conversations amongst ourselves because there were customers' children screaming and running around the restaurant.
Overall it was a pleasant experience. We look forward to coming...
Read moreWe stumbled upon the Cray quite by accident as we were early for a movie and looking for something to eat that wasn't typical 'pub grub' local to Innaloo. We were surprised and delighted at this find.
The service was impeccable! We arrived a few minutes before opening time on a Saturday (expecting to wait outside until the allocated opening time) the young host was more than happy to let us in and seat us early. All other wait staff were consistently polite, well knowledged and polished. When we left and paid the bill the host even made sure to open the door for me, was a lovely touch to end the meal.
The food was on par with the service - sensational. I ordered the morton bay bugs and the serving was GENEROUS! Without being too much however, the perfect amount of salad and potatoes and just the right amount of sauce on the seafood. Morton Bay bugs are easily one of my favourite seafood options, and these bugs were some of the best I have eaten outside of QLD! My husband had the seafood pasta and again the serving was large! The pasta was cooked perfectly.
The tables were comfortable for the larger plates (this can sometimes be a challenge for 2 person tables) and the chairs were also comfortable and cushioned. Great detail in the design made The Cray a nice little santuary from the hustle and bustle of Scarborough Beach Road. Conveniently walking distance from the Event Cinemas in Innaloo also.
We managed to get in and out in 45 minutes, which made us perfectly timed to walk back over to the theatre. (We also paid less for the 2 meals and 2 cocktails than we would have on the typical gold class frozen/fried food options).
It was a lovely touch to hear the chef singing in the background when we walked in before service, it is always a good sign when staff appear to genuinely enjoy their job. Highly recommend this restaurant and we will be...
Read moreWe had a pre-christmas family lunch, we love seafood and I have been to Belmont a few times . I booked it for 1pm, 23 December 2023 I called to say we were 10mins late, to find out it closes at 2pm on Saturday Afternoon, (I will take on board I should have checked but assumed being a Sat), but ferl there should be some heads up on the online booking site to reflect this upon confirmation. We were told we could stay but orders must be in, which was acceptable and we ordered within 10mins of being seated. We ordered a main chilli mussels, and the $165 Seafood Platter to share with drinks and the warm bread as it not supplied standard with tge mussels (surprisingly). Unfortunately the Cray, prawns with scallops, grilled fish was overcooked the Cray was rubbery. such a lovely, delicate meat. Chilli Mussels were really salty we ordered bread for dipping which all went to waste, due to the salt. We fed back this to the 2 waitresses as they asked 'how our meal was', one was very apologetic and suggested we feed back to the owner who wasn't available. The other (when taking payment), said we should have said something straight away... point taken and usually I would have, but given time constraints and I don't like wasting food we didnt. We fed back this review for growth and in kindness. I don't believe it was passed on hence this review. $280 later, it was our family special moment for personal reasons. I would come back again as I loved the atmosphere but please take this on board. In this economy it takes alot for ppl to dine and equally for you to supply food. Best Wishes for a...
