IF YOU ARE A COELIAC OR IF YOU ARE GLUTEN INTOLERANT DO NOT EAT HERE!!!! I don’t usually leave reviews to many places however I had to make an exception here because other people need to know about this. I came to Diggies for lunch and ordered the açai bowl which is specified as GLUTEN FREE on the menu and I told the waiter that it has to be gluten free FOR A COELIAC. When my açai came I started eating it and then I realised it had oats in the granola!! But oats are NOT SAFE FOR COELIACS so my super kind and amazing friends asked a nearby waiter if there are meant to be oats in there. She immediately said, no the oats are not gluten free and that if you order the açai bowl and request it to be gluten free they will take the granola out because it contains gluten. She double checked with the chef and they were ‘unsure’ whether or not the oats were gluten free which is terrible considering they are a chef after all. The waitress came back and reported this to us along with her judgement that the oats are most likely not gluten free even though the menu states that it is gluten free!!! It is so misleading and dangerous to falsely state that menu items are gluten free becuase coeliac disease is a very serious condition. It was very disappointing as I had already eaten some of the granola with my açai so I got glutened and am having all of my usual symptoms that I have eaten gluten along with chronic pain so I am going to see a doctor. As for the service aspect of this review, the waiter who took my order should be fired because he did not tell the chef to make my açai gluten free and he did not pick up on the fact that the menu says the açai is 100% gluten free even though it clearly wasn’t. He and the chefs should be held accountable for this especially since they didn’t even come out to our table to apologise or try to fix the situation. They did not follow their duty of care which is absolutely appalling considering they are such a popular cafe. And the atmosphere was not enjoyable as the room was extremely hot and stuffy which made the...
Read moreBefore I start, I will say that 90% of the time the food and service is good, we are seated and coffees arrive within 15minutes of getting there. Food about another 20minutes. Today (30/4/23) was hugely disappointing. We were met (3 of us) and seated and coffee and water arrived fairly quickly considering it’s a busy Sunday. We were fully expecting more than normal wait times. Roughly 30-40 minutes had passed, and we were yet to receive our meals. We had noticed that people who had arrived after us, had already received their meals. We bought it to the attention of the staff who said they’d check, and we were advised the food was just about to come out. After a further 10minutes we finally had our food. I would have loved to have reported it was up to their usual level, but it was not. The three meals were just luke warm. Fried eggs for two of the meals were under cooked. One was so bad, it was left on the plate. I had asked for crispy bacon. It was not. When I went to pay, I’m usually asked how was everything. Not today. The bill was rang up and POS device handed over for me to pay. But I had cash in hand. I had to ask for the 1% fee for credit/eftpos cards to be removed. I expressed my disappointment to the person taking payment about todays meal. They apologised on behalf of Diggies. A person behind me waiting to pay echoed pretty much my sentiment on his families disappointing experience as well. When I got home I rechecked what we ordered vs what I had paid. Even factoring in 10% Sunday surcharge, I had been overcharged about $5. $83.60 for three breakfasts and three coffees is a little steep, but normally the service and food is good. I am left feeling I did not get what I paid for today. I like Diggies Cafe. But the experience has soured my feelings, and I probably won’t return for some time. I hope Diggies read this and learn from it. I’m not seeking any form of reimbursement. I just want Diggies to be on top of their game like they...
Read moreI have been a frequent customer of “ Diggies “ at North Wollongong for some time now , always take sydney friends there . On Friday 23rd may , 2025 four of us went there for my daughter’s birthday . There were only 2 waiting staff , took ages to have our order taken , other patrons arrived after us , had their order taken and were served whilst we were still waiting , eventually our order was taken then 15 minutes later were told the “brioche “ buns were not available , make another selection . A nearby table was vacated , because the table was not cleared of food there would have been 50 pigeons there fighting for the left over food , they were “ pooing ” all over the table , I had to ask the waitress to clean . Then the most dreadful rubbish arrived , the beef burger was ordered without pickles , WHAT ARRIVED - pickles , the pattie was burnt , the meal was stone cold , we returned that , the staff just replaced the chips . The striploin streak was cold , there was not enough heat to melt the accompanying Dijon butter , chips were also cold . I ordered ham cheese and tomato toastie - WHAT ARRIVED - 2 slices dry bread , slice ham and cheese slapped on , NO TOMATO and burnt so much it was black , only fit for the garbage bin , I ordered hot chocolate , WHAT ARRIVED - Lavender Hot Chocolate All this rubbish cost $ 110.00 ., which unfortunately we paid Management are not interested , When my daughter was paying she commented our disappointment , the server wasnt very interested just saying he would pass on BUT invoice was signed out as Stan , which is the owner’s name - I continue to phone to speak to stan , Have asked for the owner to phone me ,...
