We had an extremely disappointing experience at Woodend Cellar and Bar. A friend visiting from England, unfamiliar with the local wine selection, politely inquired about dry wines, only to be met with a condescending and dismissive response. Rather than providing helpful guidance, the staff made her feel belittled, which set the tone for the rest of our visit.
Despite spending over $300 on wine, biscuits, and cheese, we were later informed—without any prior indication—that these were takeaway only. When we asked for a glass to enjoy our wine, we were met with rude arrogance and were told we needed to pay a corkage fee. Even after agreeing, we were not provided with plates or knives when we kindly requested them. The lack of basic hospitality was shocking.
The poor customer service continued in the courtyard, where a staff member rudely stated, “Umm, this is takeaway food only,” with an unnecessarily unpleasant demeanor. How were we supposed to know? A simple, courteous explanation would have sufficed.
The behavior of the staff was completely unacceptable—condescending, unwelcoming, and dismissive. One friend organised it and I really thought we were just getting a bottle at this place BUT then realised they have a nice and cosy section which definitely made an intimate setting.
I had the espresso Martini and twas smooth and creamy. Love it!
The tapas was AMAZEBALLS! My favourite was the prosciutto en meloni. It was a perfect dish to cleanse your palette after all the others we had.
Kodus to the awesome twosome ... that's what I called the two guys that ran it.
