Spice Affair is an exceptional Indian food destination. The cuisine is exquisite, delicious and of the highest quality. I've travelled extensively through India and dined in some the highest rated Indian restaurants around the world and can attest to both the authenticity & quality.
Our host asked us what level of heat we preferred. Mild, medium or hot.
We had a starter of 2 mixed Entree Platters
Non-Vegetarian 2 pcs chicken tikka, delicious & delicate 2pcs seekh kabab, a light mince with a bold flavour 2 pcs amritsari machhi, a delicate tasty spiced fish fry
Vegetarian 2 pcs veg samosa, a traditional favourite 2 onion bhaji, cooked to perfection. 2 pcs veg spring roll, fine but unnecessary in my opinion.
Mains consisted of Daal Makhani A stunning black lentil daal in creamy ginger, garlic, tomatoe gravy.
Pistachio Chicken Boneless chicken cooked in a delectable sauce made with pistachio and spices
Beef Roganjosh A quality take on a popular beef curry from Kashmir that is as good as you will get.
The Spinach & Cheese, garlic Naan were fresh light & not stodgy. Condiments were great
The flavour profiles are bang on and I'd rate the chef highly. Not overly oily and balanced with attention to detail. This guy is world-class in a regional NSW town. How lucky are the people of Yass?
The menu is detailed and lists gluten & nut contents in the dishes.
The decor is clean, modern and inviting that's not over the top with Indian trinkets. The space has a warm & pleasant stylish atmosphere playing chilled Indian music adding to the ambience that's not obtrusive to conversation.
I can honestly say the service was friendly, accommodating & professional. The service staff were attentive & knowledgeable.
We were visiting a friend in Yass who suggested we all try Spice Affair. Indian in Yass? This foodie was dubious however, I left blown away by the food, service and overall experience.
One great pleasure on my gastronomic journey through life as a foody is to find the hidden gems. Spice Affair is by all accounts a gem. I give it my highest...
Read moreWhat used to be a very old school cafe, you will now find the Spice Affair Indian restaurant. The old deep fryers and hot plates have been replaced with a tastefull rich colour pallet of deep reds, browns, mustards, whites, and blacks. The back wall has been transformed elegantly with mandalas, an elephant, and the taj mahal.
When you walk through the doors, you are welcomed with smiles and the beautiful aromars of the meals that have been served, and wafting from the kitchen.
The staff are outstanding. They make sure you feel welcome, and the whole dining experience is enjoyable. You are taken to your table, and once seated water is served and a bowl of papadams are placed on the table.
You will have a hard time trying to selcect a meal. The menu is wonderfully tempting, with a variety of dishes that include vegan and vegetarian.
We chose 2 mains, garlic naan bread and rice, and to finish off a mixed dessert.
What delight is it to have quality food at a very reasonable price in the little town of Yass.
I would highly recommend you book in for dinner, you will not be...

4/5 for atmosphere, as the seating was becoming little cramped, but a busy restaurant is a sure thing in my books. Dining between 5-6pm on a Sunday is a great sign.
tables on the smaller aside, ordering for 2, we were tight on space with multiple dishes, but we have banqueting without the banquet on our minds. Comfy, offering booths and not overly squashed seating, this is a minor criticism if I must be brutally honest 🥲
A rare traveller to Canberra and the surrounds, a quick google of nearby restaurants on the journey home, Spicy Affair Yass it was! Highly rated Indian food, let’s go!
I’m an also a rare early (before 6pm) eater, the service was unbelievably swift, staff are diligent, and never overbearing. A wonderfully varied and extensive menu, well...
