We were so lucky to rock up on the same night they were trialling their new menu. My partner is coeliac so seriously gluten free (not trendy gf) and our 21 month old baby is a happy playing toddler. We were asked if we wanted to sit near the Kid Zone, which of course we did. There were puzzles and blocks and cars for her to amuse herself with, and it looked like fancy computer games if you had older kids. We were well out of the way from the childless diners and therefore felt relaxed and comfortable from the get go. The menu was great, we first thought we'd just splurge on the two courses for $38, but after seeing the buffet dessert we felt the extra $5 was worth it. The entree and dessert are self service buffet, but it's really the mains that are the stand outs! We ordered the barramundi at the waiters (Jayesh - a really great waiter) recommendation, and the kangaroo- both (we share our dishes) were superbly cooked and divinely sauced (if that is a word?); and were able to be made gluten free. We also bought some sparkling wine, which wasn't cheap, but for prices up here, wasn't bank breaking either. We also had great attentive service from Toby and Logan. Toby especially made a point of looking after the kid zone even though we had promised to tidy our small hurricanes block mess. Lastly, the chefs (Haylee and Tom, I believe; I asked Toby to jot down everyone's name) were fabulous at accommodating to our gluten free diets, so much so, that when I asked about what dessert was gf for my partner, (even though there was a few more basic options) they bought out a special gf dessert they had left over from somewhere... Obviously that may not be common practice. All in all, the bill was a splurge, but it was not ridiculous. And it was definitely worth it... How often are you going to find a fancy, fresh, family friendly, and great service restaurant, minutes after watching the most incredible sunset over Uluru? Thank you everyone (even those not personally mentioned) for a great night! from Jess,...
Read moreWe chose Bough House Restaurant because it seemed to have couple of vegan options (actually just one in the main meals menu, plus some of the salads at the salad bar). Salads looked nice but were unfortunately quite mediocre in taste. As for the main meal, my mum chose the vegan option, which was a veggie and tofu stir fry in peanut sauce with rice. There was no indication whatsoever of this meal being spicy nor containing spicy ingredients. My mum is old and doesn't tolerate spicy food, so hasn't been able to eat her meal at all; on top of that, we have been denied to take away said meal, because it was against the "restaurant policy". So basically my mum spent $50 to eat some very mediocre salad. The lady at the cash register, when she asked how everything was and we answered we were not very happy, kindly enough gave us a 10% discount. Still I don't think this place should have the reputation it has. I understand it's in the middle of the desert, but the food quality and taste is not impressive, it wouldn't be a restaurant where you chose to go if it was located in a city, and it's way overpriced (like everything else in Yulara, of course) for what it is. I'm sorry but I think they...
Read moreMy review focussed on breakfast as Bough House is not open for dinners any longer. First of all I’d like to mention the staff: it is a most pleasant atmosphere, created by Bulou, Makelesi, Lanny, Paul and Peter, they are always so very friendly and attentive, it is a pleasure just to walk in and be greeted with a friendly smile. I always get a great coffee there and the breakfast is a feast and it’s hard not to gorge on more than I should. The baked beans have a delicate taste with lots of herbs, the eggs are made to perfection, baked tomatoe with cheese is delicious and all food is fresh and appetisingly displayed. If only the aircon would be less cold but it’s besting the staff’s control and I can wear something to help that....
