Room not ready; Disgusting black mold & terrible odor in bathroom. HVAC did not work in the room either. Avoid this place! Liked · Modern decor, great location. Disliked · Front desk staff was very rude; especially the blonde lady. The room was not ready at stated 3pm check in. She offered no apology and told us to come back later - which we did, and the room still was not ready. She took our bag and we sat outside for 40 minutes total, waiting. When we returned, a dark-haired lady was at the desk and we completed check in with her - again, no apologies or explanation for the room not being ready. The worst of it was there was was black mold in the shower (see pictures) with a horrible rotten sewage smell coming from the drain. A previous reviewer from two months ago mentioned the same issues in a prior review, and I assumed it was a one-off, but it was a terrible assumption to make. Clearly the issues had not been addressed by hotel management or staff. The truly terrible sewage smell made the bathroom unusable and we had to sleep with the patio door open for fresh air since the thermostat in the room was broken. Thank goodness it was a cool evening. The desk clerk didn't tell us about what she called this "small aesthetic issue" until after we had completely signed and paid, though would not elaborate on what the issue was. (Literally she explained breakfast, amenities, etc., took our card, etc. and upon handing it back to us with the room key, said, "Oh and I was just informed by the housekeeping staff that there is a small aesthetic issue with the room...." even though she hadn't spoken to anyone other than us the entire time she completed our check-in and took our money.) I asked her what exactly the issue was, and she repeated, "Just a small aesthetic issue" without elaboration. We had to discover it ourselves and did not notice the mold or stench behind the closed bathroom door until returning late in the evening after the event we attended at Schonbruun - and by the then nobody was working the front desk. We were told nobody works at the desk after 10:45pm. (At a 4 star hotel!?) We left early the next morning just to get out of there. Terrible experience. There are plenty of other places to stay nearby; avoid this one by all means possible.

We are extremely disappointed with the cleanliness of this hotel. Upon entering our room, we were immediately greeted by a foul smell. In addition to that there were marks on a bench that looked like paws of a dog. The worst, however was the bathroom that had a strong smell of sewage, as well as heavy stains around the sink. After sharing this information with the front desk lady, we were upgraded to another room. To our surprise, this one had the exact same flaws like the previous one, which lead us to believe that there are some fundamental issues with the cleanliness of this hotel. When we went back to the lobby, another employee awaited us, who was extremely impolite in his reaction to our request of cancelling our room. Among other things, he cited that it is impossible to refund the room rate and that the room had already been used by us. We asked to speak with the manager, which prompted him to state that he is the manager. Later on he admitted to being a stand in for his colleague (which doesn’t sound like manager). He asked us to come back later, when his colleague comes back from her break which we did. The initial front desk lady then refunded us the money without any problem (which was impossible according to her colleague). Overall, a shame that a hotel that looks very good in pictures can have such big issues with the most important aspects of all: cleanliness and friendliness of staff.

Toll, so geht Hotel..

As for hygiene: When we entered the room, we immediately saw fingerprints on the window from children's hands. In fact, they were still there when we left 3 days later. After the first night, we did not have the room cleaned (our ecological decision). After the second night we did, but all that was done was folding the duvet, the pillows were not even shaken, 1 towel changed and the bath mat (which we had put on the floor to replace), and that was all. It was obvious that nothing had been cleaned at all, not even in the bathroom! As for breakfast: The buns were always dry and seemed from the day before. Even the pastries did not seem fresh. Furthermore, the toppings such as cheese and cold cuts were the same every day. This was also so the last morning when we had breakfast before 8 am. As for eggs and fried bacon, these were okay. As for comfort: We had a very good bed and pillows, so we slept very well. The air conditioning functioned well, we did turn it off at night and opened the window a little. The TV was fine and easy to control with the tablet. The bathroom was spacious enough, so also fine. We found the hotel's location super, close to the metro, yet located in a reasonably quiet neighbourhood. Conclusion: We would definitely recommend the...
