I’d personally give this place a 3/5 based on my recent experiences, but I want to be fair. Location-wise, it does well. It’s in a pleasant, accessible spot, and compared to other nearby coffee shops, it has a warmer atmosphere. The food and drinks lean toward the pricier side, but they remain far more reasonable than much of the city. Their addition of homemade items is a lovely touch. Last year, the café enforced a one-hour laptop rule. Fair enough. This year, that policy seems to have vanished. I don’t mind either way; it’s their establishment and their decision. If they wanted customers to order something every 30–40 minutes, I’d happily comply (and in fact, have). I’ve also seen plenty of people sit talking for hours over a single coffee. The owner is professional, welcoming, and very much in command of her business. Some of the staff reflect this: they’re competent, attentive, and friendly. Others, however, I simply can’t connect with. I’ve been coming here on and off for two years; I don’t recall the other less friendly group being here last year. They never say “please” or “thank you.” This is not a cultural norm -- I’ve heard Austrians use “bitte” and “danke” often. But when I thank someone multiple times and receive nothing back, not even a token acknowledgment at the register, it does make me feel as though my presence is unwelcome. This is {underscore} one of my pet peeves, and it has happened more than once. The bottom line is, I don’t expect smiles or over-the-top friendliness. But a simple “please” or “thank you,” even perfunctory, would make a world of difference. I still wish them well and believe future visitors should form their...
Read moreI felt very unwelcome in this Cafe. I went there with my friend so as to work with our laptops. After an hour and a half one of the waitresses came to our table to ask us if we won't to have something more and we said no, because how many coffees can one drink (?!) and there is no huge variety of stuff you can order anyways at a cafe if you already had a coffee and a cake. The coffee was good, the cake I and my friend tried (Tiramisu) was ok. After some minutes the owner (as I saw mentioned in other reviews as the one having a bit longer hair) of the place comes again and tells us that we should free the place if we don't want to order anything more because people are waiting (PS my coffee was still on the table, and yes, I'm greek and I drink it slowly). We felt so bad with my friend, at first we though we should order sth but since he's Viennese and working from coffee places in Vienna forever and that has never happened to him before he got also frustrated and we just left the place. I understand the urge of the owner to earn some more money but this is definitely not a good management since there are extremely many good cafes around. Unless you need a quick coffee to go I totally don't...
Read more2 times out of 3 I have had a good experience. The 2nd time I went I arrived at 2pm, I ordered 2 drinks within 3 hours, all very nice. The 3rd time I went, however, I stayed for the same amount of time but was made to feel unwelcome because of only ordering 2 items. I arrived at 4pm and ordered coffee and cake. At 6pm the waiter comes over and says I ought to order something else because I have been there a while. This was in the final hour before closing time at 7pm, and there were plenty of tables for new customers to sit at, I wasn't blocking any other potential guests. I would understand this attitude if I had been there since the morning and only ordered 1 drink, but I don't know why you would insist on this in the final hour of service. Other customers ordered 2 items within roughly the same amount of time and weren't pestered to buy a third item. The one difference was they ordered their things consecutively. So if I had ordered my cake at 5:30pm, I would have been considered a "good" customer, even though it made no difference ultimately to the amount of money I spent there. But since I like having my coffee and cake together, I will consider somewhere...
