BILLA PLUS — Local services in Vienna

This is one of the better non-specialty supermarket in Vienna. It carries spices & prepared foods that most markets don’t — like coriander seeds (ground & whole), Kaffir Lime Leaves, Indian quick sauces, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, fresh sage, and Thai curry paste. There are Asian, Thai, Indian, and Mexican specialty shops in Vienna if you want to make special trips (which I sometimes do), but for the basics, this particular Merkur has an excellent selection. Their butcher shop will also order anything for you — like an entire turkey, so that this American can celebrate Thanksgiving. Having shopped at a couple of other Merkur supermarkets, this is one of the better & more diverse ones.

On the downside, it ranges from crowded to very crowded, to have to wait in line to get a shopping cart. It’s also one of the more expensive supermarkets — of the chain markets, only Interspar is more expensive (Interspars also tend to have a bigger selection of everything, even without counting the kitchen equipment). Probably the best time to visit is shortly before noon — between the morning rush and the lunch rush (which tends to run right in to the after-school rush, which runs right into the after-work and...

This is a biggee version of the regular Merkur markets with good prices and offers (download their app and become a Merkur customer there) Restaurant area with pizza, pasta, Italian food in general and Austrian cuisine is also offered. There are enough places to sit and enjoy the food but also accepts order to go. Excellent selection of vegan and vegetarian products,more than a regular market. Big area for vegetables and fruits, always with tropical fruit selection like papaya and mangos :) and nice avocados as well ! Wine aile, champagne,prosecco, all of it. At the very left of the supermarket, there is a "to go" area with drinks, water, energy drinks and more and self service payment so you can quickly get your groceries done.

Horrible service from the Kassa Sales Assistant Mrs SHEZARD, who was arrogantly keeping us on the queue, running left- right like a fly without a head, PRETENDING to be working or doing something important concerning the Billa customer service, ignorant and impudent behavior on the top. Nearly 20 min she kept the whole queue of buyers waiting, ( more or less 10 persons ) not giving the customers chance to pay what they had on the band already, but being concentrated on other " important" issues instead.
