Visiting the Haus des Meeres aquarium in Vienna was a fantastic experience. The aquarium, located in a unique WWII anti-aircraft tower, offers an impressive variety of marine life and more. The highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the incredible display of fish, including vibrant tropical species and mesmerizing schools of fish that brought the ocean's beauty to life. One of the standout attractions was the Komodo dragon. Seeing this majestic creature up close was both thrilling and educational. The exhibit provided ample information about the Komodo dragon’s habitat, behavior, and conservation status, enhancing our appreciation for this rare reptile. Equally impressive were the hammerhead sharks. Watching these magnificent predators glide gracefully through the water was a sight to behold. The large tanks allowed for an immersive experience, giving us a sense of being right in the ocean with them. The aquarium's design and layout were excellent, making it easy to navigate and ensuring that each exhibit felt intimate and engaging. Interactive displays and educational panels throughout the aquarium added to the experience, making it both fun and informative for visitors of all ages. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to answer questions and share interesting facts about the animals. Overall, Haus des Meeres is a must-visit attraction in Vienna. Its diverse exhibits, unique location, and engaging displays make it a standout destination for anyone interested in marine life and natural wonders. Highly recommended!

This aquarium and zoo is built in a historic location from World War One I want to say (please fact check me). Austria does have another zoo in Vienna a little further out from City Centre but this one’s super convenient if you are also enjoying the museums, it is easily accessible from the tram or if you’re walking. The cost and shirt is roughly €20 and there’s no time limit on how much time you spent there. I love that it has 10 floors and is in different zones with multiple tanks for all sorts of sea life, as well as rainforest and other areas of the world with some birds, reptiles, and animals. For children, they do have some learning experiences and interactive options that are free, and that you can pay for including one with the lemurs where you feed them and can take photos. Especially when it’s super hot it’s a great place that you can enjoy with children of all ages or adults like myself who just really loves zoos. Highly recommend and would return if I lived in Vienna I would have a membership so I could go whenever I wanted. I would probably post up near the shark tank. It’s so relaxing.

This was a very interesting aquarium, mainly because it wasn't only an aquarium. We loved the "jungle/forest" walk through areas with monkeys and birds--they were an awesome surprise. Those areas were also immaculately clean and all the animals looked healthy and well cared for. Despite our delight with all the other animals, the layout of the aquarium itself was super confusing. There were two staircases on opposite sides of each level, with people moving in all directions, so it made it hard to figure out whether we had seen everything on a given level without wandering around in circles a bit. There were some nice educational pieces throughout and I guess the highlight was the large tank with the small sharks. We also liked the touch tank at the end, which was happily located next to a bathroom for easy hand washing afterwards. We visited on a Friday at 11:30a and it was quite crowded. We didn't get to spend as much time just taking in the animals as we would have if there had been fewer people. Also, the open air areas with monkeys, etc had employees monitoring them, but none of the aquarium levels had employees present and there were several times kids were banging on the tanks and screaming, despite there being signs everywhere to respect the animals' quiet. We stayed for 2 hours, which was more than enough. The gift shop had lots of cute (albeit overpriced) stuffed animals for sale.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. They upcharged us 3% and it cost us $50 for two people. We didn’t even spend an hour there the conditions were so poor. Not only are the exhibits absolutely horrid and dirty, the poor animals must be miserable. I just can’t support an institution that’s dirty and poorly taken care of. The layout is horrendous. There’s no windows and it’s hot and damp everywhere. Not to mention good luck getting on an elevator. If you have a stroller, don’t waste your time trying to navigate. Just avoid it at all costs. I can’t even illustrate how disappointing and disgusting this “aquarium” is. DO NOT VISIT. I’ve attached photos of how dirty and poorly kept it is. We didn’t even see ONE employee after we left the first floor. EDIT: lol at the owner response - please feel free to dispute how gross the exhibits were and take a look at the “algae” growing on the ceiling of a bird enclosure. I wouldn’t know if it was intentional or not because half of the exhibits are labeled with what looks like a homemade label maker. No species info or education material like a legitimate zoology establishment, just the name of the animal. I’m happy to reach out in person so you can refund my money directly but you obviously treat your overpaying customers as well as your suffering animals!

Came here after 5.30pm as it cost less (15 euros) aquarium decent to see with 10 levels, small levels, tip: take the elevator, we thought it was ok to the stairs but after the 4th floor(they are mezzanine by the way so extra stairs) it started to be challenging lol. The map shows the levels and says like (level with snakes, or fish ect) but doesn't actually show the floor so it gets confusing as there are, I think more than 2 lifts on each floor and 2 opposite stairs from different directions so you will end up lost. We reached level 4 and realised we missed half of each floor because we only found a directions and took one type of stairs so you end up going back and forth. One staff man was very rude on some of the higher floor telling us when we reached Australia exhibition that we must enter on the other side as we weren't aware since obviously it is bad organised. Vienna is not big on kindness so we weren't surprised that the young lad lacked any manners. It was an ok aquarium but cannot compare with others in Europe that are 30x better like valencia, Mallorca etc.
