Gasthaus Napoleon Wien — Restaurant in Vienna

This is a very nice Gasthaus. Both the interior and the garden are top tier in this type of place.

The food is good to great depending on your choice. The specials are usually the best items on the menu, clearly showing the chef’s interest and skill. The standard menu items are, well, standard. Nothing bad, just what you’re going to get at any Gasthof restaurant in Vienna. Think fried.

Service is mixed. Our table of 6 was awaiting 2 of our party who were stuck in traffic. We asked for 2 orders of fries to hold us over and I was surprised when our server pushed back on ordering “appetizers” before our main meals. He politely explained how the kitchen worked and that there might be a delay if we didn’t order everything together. Huh?? The server was polite but this is typical behavior - It’s the “we know best” attitude, you’re just a “temporary customer” who doesn’t understand. Sigh.

A bit disappointing from what otherwise could have been a total top tier experience. That said - when we were allowed to order the fries, they were great. Just about 30 mins later than we uninformed customers wanted them.

We will return and check our appetizer expectations...

Busy day. 4th of September, school day I guess... so we hopped in, found a table. The waiter was finishing cleaning it. I wanted to ask about Mittagmenus (how long will it take), started talking about them. He read me as I wanted to order already from the doors, I think, because he angrily interrupted to take a seat and said that waiter will come to order, and... He was gone. Typical Austrian waitress mood, I'm used to it 😂 Well, after 30 minutes of sitting I went home and left my wife for waiting. 14 minutes after that I get a photo from her with the amount of food. So the good thing is that after I left it didn't take much longer. The worst thing is the amount of food for 9 💶. Wifey she said she just teased her appetite. See the image attached.

I guess I will be back to test how it is on different days. But I won't. And to you, waiter, no, we don't even go to McDonald's as you've murmured underneath your breath and I hope that you'll find some job that you like and which doesn't stress you out :/

This place satisfies as just a Bier Garden but man, it is so much more than that. It’s eclectic without trying too hard, has character, is friendly and inviting, with great daily menus, delicious staples, and great service. We were here for lunch in February, a cold and rainy day, inside there are various themed rooms, all a little different but all very warm and inviting. Outside is a great space with plenty of dining tables but also casual spots for cocktails and bier. There is even grass mats for your dog to take to the tables as it is gravel and making it comfortable for your dog. They are very dog friendly inside as well. My husband had their daily special menu which was a traditional Austrian home cooking dish of meat and rice and I had a turkey schnitzel fried to perfection. They also offer vegan options which is great. They have a great selection of local bier as well and looks like they also have dancing events. We will surely be back to visit, the better weather being outside will be...
