We reserved several tables here for a big group(20+ppl). We were at first greeted with a fishy smell and were served quite quickly, but they messed up some of orders. The service definitely wasn't quick enough to compensate for the mediocrity of our dinner. The pot roast was extremely salty. It was salty to the point that it was painful hurt my tongue and lips, although I am usually quite experienced with very salty dishes. I called the waiter and explained that it was almost inedible, and she answered with the words "what do you want me to do?". After asking if it's possible for me to get a new dish, she said that I would have to pay for the meal again. Even if it was salted correctly, the dish wasn't very tasteful, same goes for the wiener schnitzel. The portions and quality of the food were quite disappointing for the prices the establishment is offering. They even forgot the whipped cream on my palatschinken. The waiters were short-tempered and also got the change wrong for one of us. Overall, I am quite dissappointed with the quality and service of the establishment and I would recommend you to go elsewhere to enjoy authentic...
Read moreA welcome return (after 12 years) to Vienna and this very traditional Gasthaus - reassuringly, it had changed very little (although the lack of smoking inside food establishments dinner initial visit, has only helped to make this a more pleasurable experience). We have fond memories of this eatery; its traditional food and traditional décor. We turned up on a Sunday, not having booked, to find a number of tables finishing their meals. We were advised that the kitchen would likely close shortly, so placed our orders fairly promptly. We needn't have worried though, as a couple of more diners came in after us. The food was excellent - we enjoyed a black sausage grostl and lamb cutlets, served with heaps of rosemary, garlic and roasted fennel 😋 Served with nice Austrian wine.
The restaurant's wooden panels, amazing original bar, old oven/heater and timeless photos on the walls added to the ambiance. We had a short chat with one of the owners, who explained how the restaurant had now been in the same family's hands for 3 generations.
It was a lovely evening and return to this well preserved, traditional...
Read moreI've never given one star before but here I go. If I were to start with saying the most disappointing part of the restaurant was the atmosphere, I would unfortunately be lying. Though the restaurant was hotter than the 85+ F outside and the silence in addition to the openness of the room created an awkward echo chamber, the food was still more disappointing. I ordered lamb sausages with German potatoes because I love lamb. However my first bite revealed a new level of disappointment in my Europe trip. The sausages were dry and falling apart before I could sink my teeth into the meat. At the time I was envious of someone who just finished microwaving their Jimmy Dean sausage breakfast. The potatoes were overcooked and in an attempt to compensate they were slathered in butter. The peppers which centered the dish were actually quite good but I found my appetite lost by the lackluster main items. I resent anyone who enjoys a meal at this restaurant. I hope to never leave another one star review again. Also it was incredibly overpriced, should be three dollar...
