I had a solo trip through the EU, and Vienna was my last stop before heading back to the States. Unfortunately, my experience here was awful. From the moment I walked into the Donaubrau tower, I felt extremely uncomfortable. The staff was unwelcoming and made me feel like an inconvenience.
The only positive interaction I had was with the guy operating the elevator—he was genuinely nice and spoke good English. Once I arrived at the restaurant, I saw a man standing in the doorway, staring at me as if I didn’t belong. There was a security bar blocking the entrance, and I was just standing there unsure of what to do. It wasn’t until I said, “Am I in the wrong place?” that he finally moved to ask if I had a reservation. After confirming my reservation, he simply turned around and walked off without offering any direction, as if I should have known exactly what to do. I followed him, sat at my table, said “thank you,” but he just walked away without saying a word.
What really ruined the experience, however, was the waiter. The moment I spoke English, his face and attitude made it very clear how unwelcome I was. I honestly felt like he was silently screaming, “Get the F out.” It was clear he didn’t like that I was a foreigner. I left him a nice tip, hoping it would make him reflect on how he treated me and because I’m not a bad person.
I can’t help but wonder: Do locals in Vienna dislike foreigners, or is it just people from the United States?
On a positive note, the...
Read moreWe loved this restaurant! The manager was very helpful in booking us a table when there was a cancellation and answered all my enquiries. We had the three course menu and both really enjoyed all the dishes, which were presented highly originally but also tasted great. The service was perfect except our glasses of fuzz took a while to arrive. The view was glorious. The prices were very reasonable for what you got. All in all, it was a marvellous evening. The only downside was that the excellent Volcano red wine had obviously been stored in a fridge - why?
I haven’t given five stars since the noise of the motor powering the revolution might affect some people; it’s a similar feeling to bring on a ferry. Also because it’s a pain to get to, being 15-20 minutes walk from the nearest metro station, with no signs to it that...
Read moreThe restaurant is beautiful, especially an original place to celebrate a birthday like mine. The food was excellent, the prices were about acceptable but of course the value of the food itself is due to the location more than the quality. I celebrated my 40th birthday, unfortunately I was very unpleasantly surprised that none of the staff congratulated me on my birthday..even though I was the only one celebrating that day. After I mentioned it to the staff they still did not react.. extremely cold and disinterested behavior towards the guests... obviously this is a restaurant for rich people who want to eat in peace. The music was not heard at all...
