We've had the mushroom cream soup, basmati mandi rice with lamb, moali, Set Menu 1, kabab platter, sweet labang, lemonade, brownie cheesecake, hummus, and baklava!
Mushroom cream soup: good number of mushroom chunks; warm, buttery, a little thick, and creamy.
Mandi rice with lamb: two lamb pieces including a leg piece; vibrant rice; succulent and soft lamb, falling off the bone; served with a little chutney and cucumber; some more rice and some sides would've made this a meal.
Moali: solid crust; a milky liquid interior; tastes like sweets drenched in kheer with different kinds of nuts; a little too sweet for me.
Set Menu 01: lots of unique items including grilled chicken, chicken kabab, and hummus; must-try; best item for singles.
2:1 Kabab platter: five different kinds of kabab, including red-meat and chicken kababs; served with three kinds of sauce and dip.
The drinks were refreshing.
Brownie cheesecake: topped with thick chocolate sauce; spoon-licking good; must-try.
Hummus: dip with perfectly fluffy flatbread; endless pleasure; healthy meal; must try!
Baklava: too syrupy; damp; Istanbul Restaurant Dhaka does it better, right around the corner.
Service was super fast. The place was amazingly decorated, and the servers were helpful. Singles should come early for the set menus and couples in the evening to get a taste of authentic...
Read moreI recently visited Al Amar at Gulshan 2 and was truly impressed by both the ambiance and the quality of food. It’s a perfect blend of elegant Middle Eastern décor and warm hospitality. I started with their Cream of Chicken and Cream of Shrimp—both were rich, flavorful, and comforting. The Fried Calamari was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside, served with a delicious dip that elevated the dish.
For mains, the Lamb Kofta with Mandi Rice was the highlight—juicy, well-seasoned koftas complemented by fragrant rice cooked to perfection. I also tried the Chicken Liver, which was expertly prepared and packed with bold, savory flavors.
What really stood out, though, were their drinks. The Iced Honey Lemon was incredibly refreshing, and their New York Sour is easily one of the best cocktails I’ve had in Dhaka—balanced, smooth, and beautifully presented.
Overall, Al Amar is a gem for anyone looking for high-quality Middle Eastern cuisine with a touch of sophistication. It’s ideal for both casual and special occasions. I’ll definitely be going back to try more...
Read moreThe food was of mediocre taste and lacked authenticity. The service was okay and there’s visible room for improvement. The ambience was nice.
Ordered the hummus, shwarma platter, lamb kofta, falafels and knafeh. Instead of proper pickles, you’re served a few pieces and fresh green chillies. Instead of toum (garlic sauce), you’re served garlic flavoured mayo and the waiter insisted the food goes better with that instead of toum. The shwarma plate lacked pickles and greens like cucumber in quantity, however the meat was okay. The lamb kofta was decent.
When asked whether they would recommend the falafel and knafeh, the waiters drew blank and ultimately suggested we could try if we wanted. The falafel was okay. The knafeh is made with cream cheese and was disappointing, don’t expect nabulsi knafeh.
Overall wouldn’t recommend having authentic Lebanese expectations for the food, otherwise it’s not...
