RUYI BARBECUE — Restaurant in Dhaka Metropolitan

7 of us dined for dinner and while the service from the staff was great, they pretty much had a lot of items missing. There were NO DRINKS other than lemonade available. No soft drinks, no sour plum nothing. We had to stick with water. For dessert there’s only two options 1) fried banana and 2) fried milk. We were excited to try the fried banana at the end of our meal only to be told that’s not available either. The skewers were juicy, and cooked to perfection however the other dishes such as enoki mushroom and salads had way too much of the peppery 5 spice Chinese seasoning as well as large chunks of onions in every dish which kind of put us off. There was also no cold big bottled water available and we had to resort to using ice. They also don’t have the option for steamed white rice, only fried rice which is so odd because as a BBQ establishment white rice on the side is staple. If fried rice can be provided then this is no big deal.. we were also told the fried rice is 1 is to 1 and assumed it’s the small bowls you receive at every other place but they turned out to be so huge even 2 of us shared and couldn’t finish and we ended up packing 4 very dry fried rices to go. Each of the barbeques costs around 100tk, and the squid was priced at 180tk. Our total bill came to 3000tk.

Barbeque: The barbeques were heavily coated with Chinese five-spice powder. After having one or two, I didn’t find the taste appealing anymore. It felt too overwhelming.

Dumplings: The dumplings were crispy, with a filling of spring onion and a little bit of meat. Unfortunately, they didn’t leave a lasting impression on me.

Salt and Pepper Mushroom: Was a bad choice. It's disturbingly crispy and not worth paying this much for.

Oily Soy Noodles: The noodles weren’t bad, but honestly, you could make better-tasting chili oil noodles with Maggie at home.

4 of us visited with high expectations. Unfortunately the place was total disappointment. Service is extremely poor considering they took 40min to serve literally 6 pc of skewers including messing up even one order which they took another 20min to deliver. Most importantly their quantity is absolutely ridiculous! I took a fishball skewer which they cut the tiny ball into halves and present as pc of 4. Same quantity chicken, crab stick! Never seen crab sticks being sliced into half and present. No doubt they probably have good chinese cuisine. But this is not the kind of experience we expected from such a hyped up place.
