Watching the cold-clad Westerners indulging in hot chocolate in videos would fascinate me so much during my childhood days that imagining myself as one of those Westerners and the chocolate-flavored milk, which I could have had back then as hot chocolate, I used to often indulge myself in that imaginary hot chocolate.
The unavailability of hot chocolate, which did not let me experience hot chocolate throughout my childhood, has ended with the arrival of the international coffee shop brands like Gloria Jean's Coffee in the country.
While ordering hot chocolate online for the first time in my life from Gloria Jean's Coffee, I was so excited that it really did not matter to me spending 285 taka for only a 240ml hot chocolate; the only thought that was coming to my mind was to have thick and creamy hot chocolate, which the westerners are seen in videos to be indulging in. But all my excitement soon ceased when I was delivered cocoa-flavored milk instead of hot chocolate.
How could an international coffee shop brand like Gloria Jean's Coffee serve me a very light and beige-colored cocoa-flavored milk in the name of hot chocolate, which neither looked like hot chocolate nor tasted like hot chocolate anyway? I was seriously infuriated, mostly with myself, for being stupid enough to fall into the trap of this global coffee shop brand and spend my money on overpriced cocoa-flavored milk, which I did not even ask for.
Because of being a renowned international coffee shop brand that has been operating its own cafe since 1979 with an emphasis on offering premium quality coffee and personalized services in a store with a vibrant atmosphere to customers and having more than 600 stores across 40 countries, Gloria Jean's Coffee might have the right to charge a premium amount for premium quality, but it does not have the right to charge a premium amount for subpar quality.
Charging 285 taka for a 240ml hot chocolate might be a reasonable amount for an international coffee shop brand like Gloria Jean's Coffee to charge. But serving cocoa-flavored milk in the name of hot chocolate at the same rate is nothing but mocking the people of this country.
Would Gloria Jean's Coffee ever dare to serve cocoa-flavored milk in the name of hot chocolate in the West? Gloria Jean's Coffee might have thought people of this country to be so foolish that they would not have ever differentiated between these two.
My experience with Gloria Jean's Coffee was pathetic. This is definitely not the place where you get what you pay for. I would recommend everyone not to fall into the trap of this global brand and end up spending your hard-earned money on food that you do not even ask for. If you really crave the food offered in global brands like Gloria Jean's Coffee, I would recommend you to buy the essential ingredients and then make it at home on your own by watching the online tutorials rather than spending your valuable money on overpriced,...
Read moreLast night (July 31st 2019) we went to Gloria Jean's Coffee near United Hospital at Gulshan to have some coffee with some food. Sorry to say that It was a complete disaster. Wastage of time and money. Previous visit was ok though. After quite a while the waiter came for order. We were six person and he brought only two menus. So we asked if they have more. He brought few more. Before ordering food we ordered for some starters. It took 20 minutes to come. He placed the food on the table and left. There were no napkins, glasses or utensils on the table. We ate with our bare hands. When asked he brought six pcs of paper napkins.🤔 After that starter we waited for the waiter to place our order. Another 15 minutes later he was kind enough to see us for the order. He took our orders and just left. It took half an hour for our food to come. Not all together. Only two orders came first then another 10 minutes for the rest. And only four sets of forks and knives were given. We asked again for the utensils. Food were below average. We ordered couple of grilled chicken sandwiches, one schnitzel sandwich, couple of Picasso (grilled chicken with roast potatoes, green beans and zillion grams of crushed white n black pepper - oh man, it was spicy) and an order of beef lasagna. Price wise nothing was upto the mark in taste, quality and quantity. After another 45 minutes the coffee were served. Coffee was of average taste. No flavor no aroma. Tasted like 20 Taka instant coffee from nescafe vending machine. We just wasted 3 and half an hour there for worthless food, worst service and worst experience. Some other tables were getting extra attention as we assume they were regular familiar customers. We told the waiter about the bad service and he was just putting some lame excuses. The manager was just useless. Our final realization is that - Gloria Jean's Coffee has lost it's glory. It's just all about name. We usually tip a good amount always. But this time we made an exception. We will never visit Gloria Jean's...
Read moreWe had dinner recently at Gloria Jean’s Coffees in Gulshan, and it was a really pleasant experience. This branch is located in a quiet and cozy corner of Gulshan 2 — just off Road 71 — and has a calm, welcoming vibe from the moment you step in. It’s a great spot if you’re looking to relax with friends or family over a casual meal and coffee.
Even though Gloria Jean’s is mostly known for its coffee and drinks, we were pleasantly surprised by the food options available for dinner. We ordered a mix of items — grilled chicken sandwich, a pasta dish, chicken wrap, and a side of wedges — and everything was nicely presented and tasted fresh. The portion sizes were just right, and you can tell they use good quality ingredients.
Of course, we couldn’t leave without trying their coffee. The Caramel Latte and Mocha Frappe were both excellent — rich, smooth, and served at the perfect temperature. Their coffee really lives up to its reputation.
The place itself is very clean, nicely decorated, and has a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit inside since the weather was warm. The staff were polite and attentive, and service was quick even though a few tables were occupied.
It’s a good choice whether you're dropping by for a light dinner or just a peaceful coffee break. We’d definitely come back again — the food, the coffee, and the atmosphere made it a relaxing and...
