I stayed at the Nascent Gardenia in August 2017. This is a small hotel located within the diplomatic area of Gulshan, a stone's throw away from the big embassies. The rooms are clean and well furnished but poorly ventilated. The AC will have to be kept on all the time and the windows cannot be opened. The room window looks out on the wall of another building. ||||The food is average but has literally only one or two (very basic) vegetarian options. Even those seem to have chicken stock or meat gravy which can cause sickness in those who have never eaten meat. A little creative thinking is however possible and the kitchen staff were happy to oblige. I asked for a plate of boiled potatoes and a cup of yoghurt and made myself a potato salad in front of them. ||||I found three issues that made this stay slightly difficult: 1) The location is such that getting to the main road involves a long walk and hardly any public transport is available outside the hotel. One is therefore dependent on the hotel car which can be quite expensive. 2) The hotel reception ( and almost all other hotels in Dhaka) are only willing to change dollars into Taka. They would not accept a card also for currency conversion. I only had Indian rupees and was therefore left bereft of cash for the entire duration of my stay. 3) the service, especially food, is very very slow, An average waiting time of one hour is a given for any order even if it is just a plate of fruit. ||||All of these little inconveniences are however overshadowed by the superlative customer service provided by the staff. From the drivers to the gatemen to the counter managers, everyone goes out of their way to help meet your expectations- and I cannot say enough about their kindness and efforts. This was the highlight of the stay and I would happily deal with the inconveniences if it means being pampered like this by the staff of a...
Read moreA good, clean and modern apartment hotel with friendly and helpful staff. My two-bedroom suite was on the top floor with the main bedroom overlooking residential properties. Road 83 in Gulshan 2 is quiet, just the tingling of rickshaw bells and the occasional dog barking in the night. The Australian High Commission, India House and Russian Embassy are nearby so street lighting and security are good. You do have to ask for kitchen equipment but it appeared quickly (I forgot to ask for a microwave oven) and staff fixed any problems very promptly. Newspapers every morning, a decent breakfast. Security is good. Would happily stay there again - and the cost is much less than the nearby...
