't Hofke — Restaurant in Antwerp

This is a hard one to review.

Me and my girlfriend went to eat here for her birthday. We arrived in the beautifull old street where this establishment is located, in the middle of the city centre of Antwerp. Away from all the noise and the drunk hooligans that stroll around this city every day. We had booked a seat so did not have to wait for long. We were attended in a very friendly way, the dishes took a while to arrive so we were excited and waiting with great hunger untill our food arrived.

I must say the wait was dissapointing. I ordered the salmon with fresh vegetables, when my plate arrived it looked like one of those pieces of salmon that comes in one of those freezed packages in bulk which you can buy for a few bucks in your local Aldi for example, this was confirmed when I took the first bite and the inside still looked as pink as a frozen piece of salmon, and it should not look like this. Besides the potato mash that came with this plate was cold as if they had not properly warmed it up. Unless it was meant to be a cold potato mash? I found this very strange. €24 euros for this piece of trash meal was not worth it. I could have made this myself at home for 5 euros in a way tastier manner. Also in my opinion the portion was too small, I left hungry. My girlfriend had a meat stew plate which she enjoyed very much. Also the pasta plate the folks next to us had orderered looked way better then what I got. Could have just been that I chose the wrong plate on the wrong day, who knows.

In conclusion: cosy location, nice setting, friendly waiters, food was average at best but total trash for that price. Would give 2,5 stars if that...

We made a reservation for 6pm, the time this “restaurant” opens for dinner. We were there at 5:45pm & were told to wait outside until 6pm. While we were waiting, others came & were let it. At 5:58pm, we decided to try again & were let in. We ordered quickly, our drinks & shared appetizer came, but there was no sign of our child’s tomato pasta. We ended up waiting over 55 minutes for our main course, our child waited an hour and a half for the tomato pasta. Throughout the wait, the waiter did not come or say anything, we had to draw his attention, ask & plead for the child’s pasta at least. He did not apologize, only said the kitchen worked in shifts & the chef told him our food would come soon? We also told him we had been asked to be done by 7:45pm, supposedly in time for the second “shift” of diners, so we wouldn’t even have time to eat. He said our table was not booked after us & we could stay longer? The food itself was also a disappointment: the pasta was not with tomato sauce, but mere passata, no cheese was even offered. The filet mignon came with a super small salad & some fries, no mayo either. The beer was warm. When paying, the beers were taken off the tab given this experience. We still paid 87 euros for 2 filets mignon, 1 appetizer, 1 small tomato pasta & a small bottle of water. I was sooo excited to eat here, but unfortunately we had a very disappointing experience. :(

We booked well in advance and were assured that we'd have an outdoor patio table, as the outdoor areas are very charming and unique. Unfortunately when we arrived we were told they did not have a table on either the preferred patio I requested or the other, less ideal patio that you encounter on entry. We were told to take an open table inside (which to be fair is very intimate and sweet), and then they would move us outside to the less ideal patio table when another party was done, as they were finishing up.

When I asked about the more charming patio, they said they were no tables all night there. I had booked over 2 weeks prior so was surprised to hear this but we said ok, and ordered a drink assuming we'd have our drink and then move outdoors.

They pressed us to order our food as well, otherwise we'd wait "1 1/2 hours" for it. So we did, and of course it came out right away and we were almost completely finished with our meals before the outdoor table was offered ... I assume this was their plan and was so disappointing. It felt like a very crummy master plan.

In fairness our food was quite good (filet mignon and veggie pasta) and reasonably priced. But all in all a very disappointing experience. I cannot recommend it as you cannot be sure they'll...
