Do you miss your grandmaâs kitchen? â the smells, the warmth, the comfort of her hugs? At âBij De Bommaâ, you get pretty close. Plus, youâll have the chance to hang her photo on the wall while enjoying rich Flemish classics.
The Stoofvlees prepared with LeFort beer is exceptionally well-made and full of flavour. The beef is tender and slow-cooked, with a rich, slightly sweet sauce that makes the dish stand out. The flavours are well-balanced and comforting. Itâs a perfect choice for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Belgian cuisine at its best.
The interior is warm and nostalgic, with charming touches such as pictures that invite you to feel at home. The vintage furniture and family-style decor create an atmosphere that feels both welcoming and personal. One particularly unique touch is the option to bring a picture of your own grandmother, which the restaurant will hang on the wall among others â and youâll even get a pint of 'De Bomma Blond' in return!
The staff creates a welcoming atmosphere through their friendliness and consistent presentation. Every staff member wears a traditional, old-fashioned apron that fits perfectly with the nostalgic decor. More importantly, they are polite, attentive, and genuinely warm towards the guests.
Although the pricing seems fair at first glance, it can be misleading since side dishes are not included. For example, when ordering Stoofvlees, fries are not part of the standard plate and must be ordered separately. This can come as a surprise and it quickly raises the final price of the meal.
âBij De Bommaâ offers a memorable dining experience with authentic Flemish food in a cozy, welcoming setting. While the pricing can be a bit unclear, the atmosphere and quality more than...

Professional welcome, attentive waiting staff throughout.
Meatballs in tomato sauce and 'veg-au-vent' were both good. De Bomma light blond beer also went down well. Tap water available on the table, which is a welcome touch.
However, be warned when ordering: you pay for literally what's written. Unlike most restaurants, portions of vegetables and even sauces (âŹ4 in November 2024), including any form of potatoes, are NOT included in the price. A small portion of (overcooked) fries cost us âŹ4.20. Given the price of the main part of the meal, this leaves a bad taste - no pun intended.
And if you like to be able to hear the people at your own table, this may not be the restaurant for you. Despite the restaurant being as good as empty when we arrived, the several pairs and groups of diners that came after us were seated on adjacent tables. Convenient for the waiting staff, bit less pleasant for diners wanting to chat comfortably.
First and last time for us, but if you don't mind numerous financial add-ons and noise,...
Read moreI really can't understand the good reviews. It's crazy how from the start the staff were rude to another guy who was waiting to be seated and then we felt the same when we asked for a couple things about the menu. For example we asked what was included in the menu basically and he showed us a sign out of the restaurant. Like... what???
Overpriced EVERYTHING (I am greek and I know very well you don't need 23-24 euros to make a greek salad) without even a side dish included in the main dishes. If the plates were actually good, I would say that it's okay, another expensive restaurant, but my rabbit stew was tasteless and the broth was like it was made by a bomma with dementia (pun intended) forgetting she already put salt twice in it. Absolutely not stewed or something.
We were really happy seeing the place from outside, but the experience was extremely disappointing. Stingy portions, rude staff, good concept of a restaurant. Disappointing again...
P.S. After we left I had to go and eat a corn dog too. 30+ euros and I...
