Tapabar — Restaurant in Antwerp

I chose this restaurant to break my fast with my family, and I made a reservation for 6 PM. When we arrived, the first waitress was very understanding when I explained that my family and I were fasting and needed about 20 minutes before ordering food. I didn’t want the food to arrive before I could break my fast, so we simply ordered drinks to start. The waitress acknowledged this and kindly reminded us about the 2-hour time limit, which we had no intention of exceeding.

However, when a second waitress came, she was very rude and gave us attitude, saying that we were ‘keeping the table for people who want to eat now.’ This made no sense to me, as I had reserved the table, and it felt like we were being unfairly criticized. She even suggested that I should have arrived after breaking my fast, which was none of her business. Her tone made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. To make matters worse, there was a couple sitting next to us who hadn’t ordered food either because they were waiting for their friends to arrive, yet I didn’t see the waitress approach them with the same attitude.

Thankfully, another waitress came by, he apologized, and made us feel welcome, understanding that we were fasting. It’s unfortunate that the experience started off unpleasant, but I do appreciate the kindness of the other waitress who helped turn things around. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, and the food was delicious—approved by my Spanish...

We were with 10 people and had a surprise menu. Taste of the food was okey, but way to little different types of tapas were brought. All was brought in 2 goes. Not like am used with tapas, like a bit of this, then a bit of that, etc. Service was poor, way to many clients and too little waiters. And as a bombshell we found a piece of plastic in the potato salad, clearly coming from the container it "originally" came in... the comment of the waiter was: i just started working here... no sorry, or let me take this up with the kitchen or manager, or whatever...There are a zillion beter places in Antwerpen to go to. We left early and had out deserts and coffee somewhere else... Won't be go here again,...

Beautiful place (especially the first room). Great food. However, it was a mixed experience for us. Service friendly but slow to react while rushing around our table. Extremely loud during busy hours. As a group of seven, we felt neglected often - one person got their drink way after the other six had arrived, and our third bottle of wine was forgotten to be brought by two servers, for which we would've been charged had we not paid attention. Oh, and if you want to order a menu, everyone has to order a menu - even though it says "starting with two people" on the menu itself. That certainly wasn't clear. Again though, the food...
