't Huiskombuis — Restaurant in Bruges

After speaking for 3 minutes with the very rude and arrogant owner, we all got up and left. Do not bother if you care about friendly service!

A lot of reviews seem to speak very well of the owner but these accounts do not match our experience at all.

I think the problem is we were speaking a language foreign to him when we came in.

He speaks of a reservation, although there was only two other tables occupied in the entire establishment. He just told us flat out he has no room. It is only because the other guests offered themselves to shuffle in order to accommodate us that we were also “accommodated” by the owner.

We used the toilet after sitting down, with the intention of staying to eat. The fact that we didn’t stay is the result of the owners own rude behaviour.

There was no where mentioned in the menu that each person had to order a main. These are lies. The owner told this to us when we were placing the order and even had the nerve of telling us “this is normal in Belgium”. More lies.

The fries were on the menu with a price next to them. Nowhere did it say that they were only available as a side.

5+ STARS!!

A girls week-end in Brugge highlight was our dinner at ‘t Huiskombuis. The food was superb and thinking about it now is making my mouth water. I had the lamb spring rolls (divine) and ribeye (cooked to perfection) with pepper sauce (creamy). The owners (wife is the chef and husband the server) are very friendly, warm people with a great sense of humour which made the dining experience even more pleasurable. The restaurant is decorated with nik-naks from South Africa and the back garden has a real back garden feel. We left with almost a kilo of biltong made on site. Absolutely do not recommend - The owner was very disrespectful. My experience here was terrible, not because of the food, but because of the owner's behavior. He was incredibly disrespectful to my children in an unacceptable way. The whole atmosphere became very uncomfortable and unpleasant. I will never come back and would not recommend this place to anyone, especially if you're with family. It's a shame that a place like this is run by someone so rude.
