Disappointing…. When asking a local about a good place for moules frites (mosselen met friet) we were recommended ‘t Nieuw Walnutje. Hands down our worst dining experience in Belgium. The staff was disorganized, disengaged and quite honestly, poorly trained. Appetizers: We had asparagus/eggs and asparagus soup. The former was excellent and the reason this review didn’t award the restaurant two as opposed to zero stars. The white, sweet, asparagus came in gently scrambled eggs, cooked in brown butter. It was sublime. Truly good asparagus soup as well with minced/brunoised chives. But it ended here. Wine list was at best mediocre wait staff had no idea what was offered. One star off for that. We ordered the highly anticipated white wine moules frites which took 50 minutes to prepare(!) Another star off. What we received was a pot of mussels in sizes from 1/4” to 2”, literally 1/3 full of flavorless water. It was pretty awful. Down to 3 stars. After having being told we did not know mussels by one waiter 🙄 (down to 2 stars), another took over and admitted that they were busy so she apologized for the dish we were served and offered a do-over. We received a new pot of mussels, this time in a curry broth. As you can tell in the picture, the curry base was not even dissolved so needless to say we just asked for the check and left. We will highly recommend considering another restaurant when visiting Bruges. Advancing from zero to a 2 stars review due to the perfectly prepared...

Very Disappointing – Poor Service and Food Handling

We stopped at this restaurant when we first arrived in Bruges and ordered three small plates from the menu. Sadly, what followed was a thoroughly disappointing experience.

Not long after we ordered, we saw one of our dishes – the fish goujons – mistakenly delivered to the table next to us. The customer told the waitress he hadn’t ordered them, so she took the plate away. She then looked directly over at our table, clearly realising she’d made a mistake.

Over five minutes later, the same goujons were brought to our table – cold, broken in half, likely to hide the fork marks from the other customer. We asked if they were fresh, and the waitress claimed they were. When we questioned further, she admitted they had been the same ones sent back by the customer across from us, but insisted they were still “fresh”. She offered to reheat them instead of preparing a new portion.

We asked for the item to be removed from the bill, but she refused, saying she had new ones cooked specially for us. When the plate came back, there were fewer goujons than before and they still weren’t properly hot.

When we asked for the bill, it was brought without a word, and all the staff seemed to avoid our table. We had to wait to pay, and not once did anyone offer an apology or even acknowledge the situation.

For the price charged and the level of service received, we cannot recommend this restaurant. Extremely disappointing and not...

Visited June 20, 2023 6:20PM This is a true Belgische keuken restaurant (“classic Belgian cuisine) in the heart of the historic city center of Bruges. I highly recommend it for any traveller! You can bring your kids and you can even bring your pets, they serve all kinds. The dishes were a highlight of our trip and I can tell you they cooked the beef tenderloin perfectly medium rare, their mussels in white wine and garlic were excellent paired with a glass of their house white, and the Belgian meatballs were also a delight. It’s a little ways away from Grote Markt but you won’t notice as you walk through the beautiful cobblestone streets of...

Moules frites - mussels and chips, non merci 😒 Very disappointing indeed. The cream sauce (where was the cream???) was so watery and tasteless that we didnt even want to dip our chips in it. When the sauce is delicious you don't need mayonnaise (what an admission of guilt!) to dip your chips in! The onions in the broth were cut any old how and where was the freshly ground pepper or even just a pepper mill? Or some fresh herbs? A loveless meal. Only les huîtres (oysters) were a real joy. Front of house staff not knowledgeable and too casual for the price tag of the place. I do not recommend. If it wasn't for the oysters I would have given 2 stars.
