De Katelijne — Restaurant in Bruges

We asked for tap water for the table but were told they don't serve tap water. Good start. Forgot one of our three starters, and exclaimed that she'd now have to make another. Must be my fault then.....As the owner (?) brought the missing starter ten minutes later she also brought the main courses of which one was quite cold on the edges, she took it away and stuck her finger in it. We suggested it would be preferable to get the mains after we had all finished our starters but she asserted that these are ready now. I had to rush my starter to catch up. She eventually brought back my main and the cold one reheated, asking 'do you want this?'. Sorry to say that the food was ok but average takeaway quality. We were then ignored until we asked for the bill. We suggested it would be reasonable given the poor experience to offer a reduction of one main course which ended in a slanging match with the owner and chef being surprisingly aggressive. Literally. We eventually paid €120 of the €139 bill and left. Not recommended given our experience. Probably best we stay away in future. For info, we'd had one beer...

We've had an amazing lunch here! The carrot soup of the day was just like homemade one and bread was like straight from the oven! Next course was steak with french fries and salad. Again: steak was just brilliant! Juicy, soft, spicy in the manner it should be. Big bowl of fries was so big, we couldn't finish it after that much food we've already got. And the kicker was the chocolate mousse with, seems like, homemade whipped cream and juicy piece of strawberry. The service is fast and very welcoming! Woman, who brought us the dishes, was extremely hospitable. We'd certainly recommend this...

How did we find the best sushi in the heart of Bruge?? After spending the days walking in Ghent and Bruges, we had to stop to eat before catching the train home. My friend and I saw the special in the window and could not resist! Everything was delicious. We ordered the chef special and received maki rolls and nigiri, 35pcs of deliciousness! We had a serene, refreshing dinner too fuel us for the train ride...
